Greetings from Thai tourist who is now visiting Japan. Today I just made a day trip to Hiroshima and Miyajima from Osaka, which I know that the only way to do it is to use Shinkansen, because the distance between Shin-Osaka and Hiroshima along Sanyo Shinkansen line is 305.8km. The Shinkansen that I took in both directions did it in just 1 hour 20 minutes, averaging at an impressive 229.35 km/h. (I took Mizuho there and back with Nozomi) Furthermore, they are also punctual down to the level of seconds, departing and arriving within the exact minute as scheduled, and all of processes were timed to seconds (conductor in position (leaning out of conductor’s window), closing doors, pointing and calling to confirm safe departure, and depart). It is really a pinnacle of all of rail transport, because it’s such a perfected masterpiece of speed, punctuality, capacity, frequency, safety, and ride quality. Before I made a day trip to Hiroshima, I also observed JR Central’s Shinkansen conductor who was in charge of one Nozomi train bound for Tokyo from Shin-Osaka, and he did exactly like this conductor, very strong pointing and calling to make sure that punctuality and safety are perfected. I think that this is one of the reasons behind its flawless safety record of zero fatal accidents since 1964.
