What loctite should I use on my Secks Swing? My boyfriend said blue because he is a democrat and it will resist the oil lubes we use in our secks room. I am a big guy and don't want to crush him if something breaks on the swing.

I accidentally added Loctite 660 (Quick Metal) instead of grease to the rear bearing (ball bearing) on a motorcycle. The bearing still has mostly grease that was already in the bearing, I just topped it off with the 660. The loctite tube and my tube of molybdenum grease are similar and just failed to read the label to be sure. It would be a major chore to redo the bearing, so QUESTION: is it catastrophic to use 660 instead of wheel bearing grease or it might be okay for a while?
@EkasuryaInoutIndonesia2 жыл бұрын
Hello.. We have never experienced this, it's best if the area that is already filled with Loctite 660 is cleaned as much as possible. Although Loctite 660 will only work anaerobically, but we need to anticipate that when the bearing works and generates heat, the remaining Loctite 660 will change to a thicker formation which may later cause the bearing to jam. Loctite 660 will become thermoplastic after being cured which may inhibit the ball bearing from working optimally.

i really don't see how it isn't shear during rotation, i guess you don't need to lock a lot so it is ok
@gopackgo40369 ай бұрын
The force he applied was axial, he got it wrong. Shear (technically hoop) stress would result from the torque load applied at rotation. Essentially in this case I believe the Loctite forms almost a thin walled tube sort of shape and therefor the 3 stresses are axial, radial, and hoop.
@21area215 ай бұрын
@@gopackgo4036 both axial torque and thrust are shear forces on the adhesive surface. For all intents and purposes, it is exactly the same mechanism, just in a different direction. Looks like this video was made for mechanics and guys who are more meatheaded and not like highly technically inclined. It seemed like it took a lot of thrust to get that joint apart so im guessing the engineer dide was basivally yrying to day "its a bearing brother. Bearings dont need a ton of torque. It should hold fine."

@@21area21 explain how thrust (to be clear axial force) is a shear load?
@21area215 ай бұрын
@@gopackgo4036 aight, bet. Imagine the axle is a square tube being pushed axially. And the bearing is a square as well. If you look at one side of that square axle, you see that is two sheets trying to move parallel against each other. That is the definition of shear. A circular axle and bearing is just the exact same thing, just curved. The mechanics are exactly the same.
@gopackgo40365 ай бұрын
@@21area21 the applied force is normal. So is the resulting stress in both parts. The only shear force is on the adhesive itself.

What loctite is best for locking in a shear pin into a hole that has widened? The hole has widened about 2mm This is to hold an electric motor prop with high torque. I would also like to bang it out fairly easily with standard garage tools. My first attempt is with 263 (awaiting the full cure atm) but I also have 660. Would 660 bang out okay, or is this more permanent?
@Rick_Dunaway2 жыл бұрын
try this stuff! what they are saying is once it drys completely you won't be able to rotate one object while holding the other in place. But you will be able to "pull" them apart / slide it off the shaft. just imagine the outer race of a bearing thats been spinning in its housing. This stuff will keep it from spinning, causing more damage and ultimately fail completely. But it will allow the bearings race to be pulled free from the housing and replace in the future. 648 you can pull but not rotate, so don't hesitate, go fix the damn thing, no more procrastinate!

How does the Loctite know the difference between Axial shear and Rotational Shear? Does it contain nanobots?
@EkasuryaInoutIndonesia3 жыл бұрын
There are 3 types of movement in general which are translation, rotational, and vibration. Loctite is there to eliminate one or more of those three unwanted movement (depend on the machine itself) in order to keep the machine precision. You can contact your Loctite country representatives for more details.
@pmgear3 жыл бұрын
yes I reacted to this as well, same shear stress no matter rotation or axial force, does not mean the product is not great, but this is a product for engineers and mechanics, so we expect the correct nomenclature ;-)
@ighfirlee3 жыл бұрын
More loctite resistance to overcome in rotational force as your are moving it across where the loctites are currently positioned. For shear force, u are pulling it away to a non-loctite surface, so its easier to overcome
