Thanks Mark! If I don’t have much time I’ll still knock something out. It doesn’t matter the subject, it’s the practice that matters. I hope to be able to competently paint anything in a few minutes eventually.

Magnificent bird. Must had been amazing to see it in real. We have white-tailed eagles here in Poland but i've never seen them so close on the ground. They hoover high in the sky tho. Biggest and also beautiful bird so far that i see often is crow, faimily of them lives in woods near my place :)

great study, now do a big version!
@sankaodell163515 күн бұрын
Do you use open acrylics? If not what do you use to get such good movement over such a large area?
@wardwhitneyspring14 күн бұрын
@@sankaodell1635 I use Blick acrylic paint that comes in jars with screw-on lids. Before I start painting I gesso both sides of the canvas. The side I will paint gets gessoed twice. For roughing in, I have a cup of water I dip my brushes in. To cover a lot of canvas I dilute the paint a lot, about half-and-half. I now use the cheapest chip brushes I can buy in bulk. Some are five inches wide. This Mount Olympus was painted in three sessions, each less than an hour. I do layers of paint, with each session trying to get closer to what I want. In each successive session I intentionally allow some earlier layers show through. I know I could keep adding more sessions and develop this painting further, but it’s just a test painting to figure out processes. I will do the next version in oil over many more sessions.

@@richard0987-u9p Thanks Dik! “Pink Olympus” may get more layers. My reptilian brain is mulling it over. Key is for me to go with the flow. No-rules, no overthinking. The music is my off the cuff lyrics and Suno AI generating the result. I think more of my painting videos will have similar whimsical audio.

Very impressive. This has to be the 3rd or 4th study you have done. Can’t wait to see the final!
@wardwhitneyspring23 күн бұрын
@@MarkMolen-k5v I’m figuring out how to paint it quickly (hopefully in one session) in an accurate way. Like a familiar face, the mountain has a unique profile. If I get it wrong it won’t look like the mountain. Plus it will be painted in oil, which presents all sorts of challenges. So, I’m working on it. You’ll see a lot more studies of Olympus before it’s done. I’m solving different problems and learning things with each go.

This style of painting is a departure from your usual. I think I will buy some gouache myself as I’ve never tried it before. I’m intrigued with the statement : ‘It is completely different than oil, water or acrylic’. So I set a new path today for my own work.. Thx
@wardwhitneyspringАй бұрын
@@kathleenwing1590 I used tubes of acrylic gouache for this painting. I have since ordered “traditional” gouache. Traditional gouache can be reconstituted after drying. Acrylic gouache dries and becomes permanent. Both have advantages.
