It's funny how Rob talks about the Nick Rhodes haircut, because I had the same one and the entire reason I bought Arias and Symphonies was because the guy on the back (Rob) had THAT haircut and I figured there was a pretty good chance I was gonna like the music. I bought a lot of new music based purely on the cover art, and this time was a win for sure! I also attempted, albeit rather badly, to reproduce sounds off records I was obsessed with using this shitty electric keyboard my mom had rented for her basement band to use. The first record I ever bought was the 45 of Gary Newman Cars (I was in grade 4 and my small town classmates thought I was the weirdest kid in existence) so I endeavoured to get those sounds out of that relic keyboard 😂 along with The Human League etc. Imagine this little girl attempting to play "Being Boiled" 😂 no wonder they thought I was weird. Anyway... the organic progression of all the different influences he talks about makes a helluva lot of sense, cuz I was doing a similar thing at the same age. Good times!

The film is the usual stupid b.s., making a big deal about a sloppy concert , hyping some major importance in regards to it as some sort of touchstone event..the fact is ,they have so little footage,and à lot of hot air.

George Michael ended his business/manager relationship with Simon Napier Bell in the 1980s - for reasons easily found if you search online and not for a good reason. That he is making money off a documentary about GM is rather unseemly and I don't personally intend to watch it given what I know but I hope there isn't too much speculation from Napier Bell about GM given how that business relationship ended.

There are obvious errs by corporate disingenuous answers. Numerous deviance of to dispel perfunctory unknowns. Opportunist Aussie by diverging from format, ruined GM’s interview to be the outer of GM. Might’ve been the ruination of one’s trusts. As opportunist, ask why he’d become an ex? Non devotional precept, devoid of nonoccupational concerns. Untrustworthy ambiance, the deflection of questions causing perplexity, while utilizing reminiscence of published knowledge. Grandeur in caring, nor of GM’s trust, does not reside within this pretense, a sad contrived rarity, misrepresented.

Great interview and really glad to know about the documentary that is ready to come out. A lot of things that Simon said about George are quite interessting, like the revelation that George never wrote down his lyrics, it was all in his head/memory. He was a genius and we all miss him a lot. Thank you very much for this video. Cheers!

I miss MuchMusic the way it used to be before all the "reality show" bull**** started. When they used to play nothing but music videos because after all...they were "The Nation's Music Station". I remember hanging around "Speaker's Corner" a few times making cheesy videos and standing in front of the windows watching my fave VJs doing their on-air work. Had the BIGGEST crush on Erica Ehm, too. One of my favorite parts of MuchMusic was the game show "Test Pattern" with the late great Dan Gallagher. Living in Montreal, I also frequented the studios of MusiquePlus quite often. Great memories!

This was a joy to listen to with many interesting questions and fun new stories. “Somehow in a Dream” is a great dip into the more emotionally vulnerable songs on the newest Odds album and Craig sang it beautifully here. There are also some rock n roll bangers and journeys along other musical roads on “Crash the Time Machine” too. Thanks for doing this interview.

I love Harvey, but as a Welshman so wish he would not talk about us in the UK as 'English'. How about 'British' and 'Britain' Harvey? Is there any wonder that 9 out of 20 Scots voted for independence back in 2014? Thank heavens we are still a British people… but using English for British sure does not help keep us united. So please Harvey, use 'English' when speaking specifically about England. You are a great life force, Harvey… long may you prosper. ~ Dai Woosnam, Grimsby, England, UK.

The sad thing about this amazing outdoor concert was that certain artists (Chicago, The Doors, Alice Cooper) did not allow their performances to be filmed. Had this event been managed properly it would have rivaled Woodstock.

Super enjoyable conversation… Although I was already sort of “on the road“ through much of much music heyday, it was always a touchstone when I would be back in Canada. As it goes, years later had a great coffee and conversation with Christopher Ward and always get a kick out of asking him about playing in Ming Tea, as well as flashback of meeting Erica Ehm (on the same trip to Toronto as I first met Karim) and she was even more excited about what I/we were up to as I was about meeting her. I really really really should’ve taken a snapshot together to show my pals back in Surrey (the Scarborough of BC). #swooooon Greg, excuse my ignorance, but what was your band? Sean was fantastically well spoken & thoughtful - and yes, it’s really a golden age of niche documentaries. & peace to the memory of the magnificent Gordon Lightfoot.

I attended the Rock'n Roll Revival. When Yoko was screaming in the bag, I had my binoculars focused on Eric Clapton and, to this day!, I've NEVER seen anyone look more embarrassed and humiliated. Put his arm on his amp and his head on his forearm. Yoko aside, it was a pretty good set for a band that never played together before. In fact, John said, "We're just gonna play numbers we know because we never played together before." And then they played Blue Suede Shoes. I'd heard rumours (maybe at the event) that John Lennon was gonna be there but I didn't believe it, even though I _knew_ he'd be keen to see all the acts from his past at one place and time. Jerry Lee Lewis TORE THE JOiNT DOWN! Chuck Berry was the perfect image of himself. Little Richard was fabulous. Bo Diddley was a treat. The Doors were fantastic. I'd never heard of Alice Cooper at that time but I was impressed with his set. He had some theatre with the music and I thought it clever. (When he went over the top with the facepaint and all, he lost me as a fan.) I'm going to see Revival69 tomorrow at Hot Docs and I'm really looking forward to it. I was _so_ pleased to find out it was made. I never expected to see those performances again and, as viewers will see, there were terrific performances.

@@welcometothemusic2633 I _did_ enjoy the doc (and your conversation!) even though I was expecting to see more of the music. I encountered 4 people at the theatre who'd attended the concert and we had a good chat. One of them got a ride hitchhiking from Chuck Berry! :) When the show was over and I was outside the theatre I thought, "Is Varsity Stadium even there any more?" Then I thought, "Oh, it must be; it's part of the university." But I walked the few blocks east and saw Varsity today. It's been altered and revamped and looking over the field I saw something that made me think, "In 1969, when you looked south from Varsity, what you _didn't_ see was the CN Tower!" Hadn't been built yet. And today there's no Harvey's across the street.

@MalcolmO
@MalcolmO Жыл бұрын
@@juanrobertonavarroarellano1215 Yes, I saw the Doors and they were fantastic! There was a long wait before they took the stage and that might've been because they weren't filmed and maybe they were collecting all the cameramen. Robbie Krieger said it might have been Jim Morrison that stipulated no film. When they brought out John Densmore's drum kit I thought to myself, "You can't play rock music with that small a kit!" but when the show was over I said to myself, "What a f'ing drummer!" He really was excellent. This was not that long after Morrison had been charged with indecent exposure. I heard that a police officer had told him, "If you do ANYTHING out of line, you're busted." So he did almost the whole show standing at the mike with one foot on its base. This was most unusual for him, of course. At one point, he jumped up, threw his legs forward and fell flat on his butt. By that time he'd been motionless for a while and so seeing this move made your hair stand on end. It was simple but very unexpected. All 3 of the instrumentalists played fantastically. I could scarcely have been more satisfied with the performance. Only time I saw the Doors! I think it was there only show in Toronto.

@@MalcolmO Thank you very much for your comment and for sharing your memories of that legendary night. It would have been great if they had filmed The Doors that night as the audio from the concert is really the best I've heard from them alive...Morrison and the band sounds precise, professional and in amazing and wonderful musical harmony. Hopefully one day the full footage of them will come to light. Greetings from Mexico!
