The antenna's those come with are not too good. Go look for for ones that are meant for LoRA or Mesh and you can find antennas that have been tested to get the best performance in the 900mhz range. I've even slapped on 4g LTE antennas and they do much better.

I am just a random brazilian arch linux user, i think its safe to let my router firewall disabled right? I am behind cgnet so the only ip open to the internet is my pc ipv6.
@LANRangerАй бұрын
@@aidvokbr5943 By default, most consumer routers do not allow inbound traffic from the internet on IPv6 unless specific firewall rules or ACLs are configured. However, since IPv6 does not use NAT like IPv4, devices with a GUA IPv6 address are potentially reachable from the internet unless the router blocks such inbound traffic. Therefore, while traffic isn’t explicitly “allowed” by default, it is more exposed on IPv6 compared to IPv4. Though, I can’t tell if this is a rhetorical question or not. Also, CGNAT plays in your favor for this scenario. Edit: added a few more because iOS comment replies are tough so sorry!

@LANRanger Thanks for the info mate, i basically just sometimes need to ssh into my computer from outside my home network and i disabled the router firewall to do that, since i am behind a cgnet i can only ssh into it using ipv6, also thinking about making a minecraft server for me and my friends and i will be using ipv6 for that since its my only option, the router firewall blocks ssh when i tested it from outside my network, dont know what more it blocks.

@@LANRanger No, I mean to say, is this an IPv6 from an ISP, or is it from a hosting service? Because bots often target hosting IPs, hoping to access misconfigured or outdated servers, while home IPs are often attacked by bots that target IoT devices like cameras and outdated Wi-Fi routers

@@A-Litte-Catnoreplayit doesn’t necessarily matter. There are so many v6 addresses that it wouldn’t really make sense to scan everything. With that being said, tunnel brokers usually get blacklisted by a lot of sites because of them being abused. Otherwise, no, inbound isn’t really an issue.

In an ISP setting, this device would be in the head end. Usually located at your local cable company. There are forward and return lasers that trunk it to the neighborhood where you would use an optical node. We used moto sg4000 but there are several. The node can be split into 6 (i believe) with their own rx/tx fibers you dont really want more than 2-300 modems on one set of fibers, but we had 500 in some before g-pon.
@LANRangerАй бұрын
@@burnz163 that’s interesting. From the white papers from NSG these are supposed to be further south. Thanks for sharing. Edit: by these, I mean this particular CMTS is apparently designed to be last mile fiber and not at a hub
@burnz163Ай бұрын
@LANRanger I guess theoretically you could, but you would want it close to your modulators and combination network. We used the harmonic NSG qam modulators to put the channels in. But there are some areas where things are being inserted with a backwards two-way splitter up to a backwards 16 way. The old school setup was crazy where there was a satellite receiver or antenna for each channel and a separate modulator that all got combined tweaked and balanced and shipped out

I work for one of the large cable companies as a lineman, and let me tell you, it is blissful seeing docsis work so well.... If you really want some fun, find yourself a viavi one expert meter. I'll give you some other useful info: When it comes to signal levels at CPE, you want an RX between +12 dBmv and -10 dBmv along with a TX between 30 dBmv and 45 dBmv. As you experienced, too high a RX will literally burn out a cable modem. What you didn't see (due to this being a lab environment), was what having too low a tx does; A low tx causes the cable modem to fall below or talk at the noise floor. This prevents you from getting usable upload speeds. Adding the pads you did was a wise move, you not only brought the RX down to a safe level, but forced your modem to talk louder, bringing it above the floor. I would love to write a book on every little bit of docsis knowledge I have, but its easier to answer questions as they come in, by which i mean, please feel free to ask me any questions you might have. I am happy to teach, docsis is a highly complicated standard, and cable systems in general make it even worse (ie, ingress)
