Kevin, I’ve been watching your videos to get ready to purchase my new car with cash. Thank you very much MSRP of this vehicle (2025 Toyota Camry LE $32062. You were correct in them trying to give me a bunch of add-ons which would have added up to $36,000 plus. I was able to get all the fees taken off (which they did not seem to care for too much) I walked out of there with the premium package that I told them that I didn’t need, a full tank of gas and my outdoor price was 33,200 tax license.everything I probably couldn’t negotiate a better price, but since this was a brand new car that I know that didn’t stay on the lot very long, because I did my research like you suggested, I feel like I got a good deal. They did ask me to get the extended platinum warranty, which I just politely told him no thanks I don’t need it and that was it. I can’t thank you enough for all your help. If you want to know of a good Toyota dealer in Saint Augustine, Florida, it’s Beaver Toyota. The salesman was Luis

So to be clear, the only fee that is legal and that I should be paying is the destination charge? All other fees are illegal?

Wow, I have NEVER found the no-haggle companies to have reasonable prices. In particular CARMAX. I am currently helping my son look for a minivan in Phoenix AZ. There is currently a 2019 Kia Sedona L with 120k miles, no accidents, 1 owner, clean title, offered for $11,995. CARMAX has one listed at a nearby facility, 2012 Kia Sedona LX with 91k miles and 4 previous owners listed at $12,599. KBB shows the low "trade-in" value, even in EXCELLENT condition to be $3340. I should be able to get that for about $6k - $7k at most. I have never found a reason to go to CARMAX??? They are for people who hate negotiating SO MUCH that they are willing to pay several thousand more just to avoid it.

I recently purchased a Ford Maverick from Mullinax FORD IN Smyrna Beach Florida. The MSRP of all the vehicles I looked at was lower than any other dealer I had been to. This dealer had no fees and only added the tax, tag and title to the contract. I was treated nicely throughout the process and even had bottled water delivered. The truck was detailed and filled with gas before I left. I could not ask for anything more from the dealer or John Moore my salesman.

I think a Nissan dealer in North Carolina was in serious legal trouble for not refunding deposits charging to much for repairs and big one selling cars that were repaired, customers buying those cars. Also was so bad dealership closed and Nissan reopened under new ownership.

I just want to give a big thank you to both Kevin and Elizabeth for their excellent buying tutorials. I just completed a very simple purchase at Cedar Rapids Toyota in Hiawatha, Iowa with an amazing salesman, Alan. I used the step method they suggested(OTD, tradein value, getting a little bit more on my trade, and finding they actually had a sale and started at $995 off the window sticker. There were no add ons with the exception of factory add ons to include in the bargaining. I felt that based on the small amount of new vehicles in their lot that trying to push down the asking price would not be a reality. In the end, I got a very good deal. This was the second purchase in a week that myself and my girlfriend made there. We made hers first following all the techniques that I learned from your channel, and I then went back and purchased one for myself. I didn’t even need the techniques the second time because the salesman and the dealership were totally transparent after the first transaction. Again, thank you for all the advice.

I got a question about paying with a personal check at the dealership. In my last car deal, I did that but then the finance manager said that he needed to run a credit check on me before accepting my check because he "didn't know me." I didn't want him to do that because credit checks always lower your credit score. I allowed him to do it, but is that something where I could've said no and they still accept the personal check?

Excellent information...thank you. You guys always bring great ideas and practical plans. I am always ironically amused and somewhat sighing at how "odd", "corny" and "cheesy" these skits and photologs are in these types of videos. "Corny" and "cheesy" however just make it surprisingly watchable in an odd, odd manner!

From what I have researched, it looks like a document fee can be legit, but the fees are all over the board from state to state. How high is too high to pay for a document fee? Should I have to pay this?

I watch this and I don't think its useful to make up stupid names for dealer fees. I want to know the actual name of the fee to know that's what your talking about , you just confuse the issue and i can't rely on it for good information I can use in reality

Your advise is spot on except that when you talked about trade ins, you assumed cash payment, no finance thus leaving out the "4 square" (trade in value/purchase price/finance rate/finance term). That's where a dealer tries to confuse you by offering a relatively high price for the trade-in offset by higher price on the purchase. A dealer can offer a sweet looking deal on a purchase/sale offset by a rip off interest rate.

What are appropriate expectations for what a dealer can be pushed to pay you versus what the car would sell for private party? Should they get a 10% ROI? 10% or $1000 which offer is lower? What's reasonable?

Lawyers for Americans All numbers from a car dealer are useless. What you want to know is the total amount for the new car, in other words, the amount the check should be made out for, this amount agreed to by both parties and including the vin number before you go into a dealership. You have to decide whether this is a fair price.

The way we buy cars is medieval. Do you haggle over a bag of Oranges? Do you pay too much for them? "Stealer-ship" It boggles my mind that we still have to fight for the right to buy a car. Sorry Salesmen, we don't need you. The whole thing is rotten. Imagine if you went to the store for grocery and dude comes up and shakes your hand, then upsells the Oranges?

I say NEVER trade in a car to a dealership. Either sell it yourself or keep it. Actually with todays ripoff prices it is always better to keep your current car for as long as you can and do all the required maintenance. Always remember that buying a new car will keep most middle class people in the poor house and will keep people from acquiring any real wealth.

Keeping a car for an extended period means you miss out on advances in safety. Some of the safety features in your car may cease operating correctly as well. It’s not as simple as maintaining and keeping for over a decade.

Good video. Like you said, Remember that the trade will more than likely save you money on the taxes so you need to factor that in to the OTD price. I was looking at a new 2023 F-150. They were giving me a decent deal (8-9%) off MSRP. It had 200+ miles on it. I decided to look at KBB for a used 2023 F-150, same exact equipment and mileage as the one I was considering buying. Turns out, if I paid what they wanted today, and attempted to trade it the next day, I’d be offered 15% less then what I paid just 24hours later!!!
