Build it and they will come! The Katy Trail already makes Missouri a bike destination. Build the Rock Island Trail and more people will come to Missouri and stay longer.

Yes, the Lake Wobegon and Central Lakes trails are technically different but one is just a continuation of the other.

Thank you for this video! I just found out about the Great American Rail Trail a few months ago and plan to bike it in a few weeks starting on Aug 14 in Washington DC!!! Great to hear that you’re working with Adventure Cycling too.

Cities need to do more to encourage people to ride bicycles. Safe protected bike lanes and trails are needed so adults and children can ride safely. Speak up for bicycles in your community. Bicycles make life and cities better. Ask your local transportation planner and elected officials to support more protected bike lanes and trails. Children should be riding a bicycle to school and not be driven in a minivan.

Every adult and child should own a bicycle and ride it daily. Healthy exercise and fossil fuels free transportation. Ride to work, school or for fun. Children should be able to ride bicycles to school safely and not have to be driven in minivans. Ebikes are bringing many older adults back to cycling. Great to keep older adults active and mobile.

A neat idea that I've heard about for years. I'm puzzled as to why there's been very little progress between this video and a similar one from 3 years ago in terms of trail completion? It seems like there's been a significant amount of funding available and yet not much to show for it. Even the website and map are not very dynamic. Maybe the National Parks Service should supervise the promoting, building, and maintaining of a network of trails across the U.S.A. which could include vertical lines to run down the west coast, the Mississippi River, etc.

You're correct that some parts don't allow biking. Here's more info: "The few sections of the Ice Age Trail that use the same corridor as state rail trails, such as the Sugar River State Trail, allow for bicycling and snowmobiling on the rail trail corridor."

Hi, As a new member from the UK - we heard about your wonderful trails through Ryan Van Duzer's channel. We are planning our trip for next year and not sure how many Europeans know about your trails. Definitely potential there for many more tourists to support your trails, towns and communities.

Thanks for your interest Sean. The route is over 50% percent complete now and will take several decades to complete but each year we're working with local partners to finish it. There are large sections of the trail ready for trails users now though. Check out our map: www.railstotrails.org/greatamericanrailtrail/route/

Are there some terrain situations that rails to trails avoids and instead goes around as they are poor candidates for accessible trails? Thinking steep, wooded, areas.

Where there is unplanned sections, are there at least maps for recommended routes? For example, the gap between Bureau Junction and La Salle Illinois is very dangerous and not even any back roads a person can take to be safe from traffic. Thanks,
