Meh, Dr Who villains are always pathetic. The plot always makes them impervious to human weapons (somehow), but they are all 1-dimensional 'bad guys' with easily exploited weaknesses - usually their overly inflated arrogance and lack of awareness of flaws. Sontarans might be very tough, but they are slow and stupid. Any well-trained and equipped modern army would wreck them without raising a sweat. Even the 'greatest' enemy, the Daleks would fail dismally against our weapons. There's a KZbin series about sci-fi civilisations too stupid to exist, and every Dr Who enemy would qualify for that list...

"You didn't move your lips!" "You're looking at my eye..." "Easy mistake!" This exchange makes no sense. Thrax is an alien, but he's a humanoid, with almost the exact same physical setup. The moments where he doesn't understand the difference between eyes and lips isn't funny, that's the way his body works too. It just makes me imagine the writers sitting around a table not understanding their own jokes.

Vastra and Strax and Jennie (Jennie? can't remember) needed their own show. The only time in the history of Dr Who was there ever a set of characters that absolutely deserved their own show. I think I already said that. It is a shame was DW has devolved into... sigh.
