Thank you so so much from the bottom of my little ol peapickin' heart, Mr. Hiatt, for this gem of a song and indeed your entire complete wonderful profound discography...my daughter are closer because of you...her favorite songs are "Everybody Went Low", "Tennessee Plates", and "Honey I Don't Wanna Leave You Now..." but she loves them all. My Uncle Kyle Yule, a bullfighter par excellence extraordinaire introduced me and my cousins to you on a cold and wintry night loljk. Lbvs you are one of the reasons I keep going. Thank you for all you do, Mr. Hiatt, and God bless YOU <3 <3 <3 PS: You really are the bee's knees and I just love you...<3 Keep Riding, King!! <3

Those lyrics cut to the bone. Saw him this year accoustic. 'There's a debt I owe, I'll never pay before I go...' Honest songwriting, emotional singing and playing. A true Master of the 'Caster.

+John Friedman We (my brother and I) just saw him and Lyle Lovett in Lawrence KS in Oct. He and Lyle were INCREDIBLE! What a fab night! I also have drawn him and Lyle a few times. If you peek at my timeline on fb, you can see my work. I posted it to John's fb page, too. I hope to hear from him....never know! :D

@H0ly0uch I'm certainly not going to compare junkie street cred with you. Your 30 years obviously trumps my 10. However, even though you might not have heard the phrase used in reference to cocaine or methamphetamine, I have, and it was a commonly used term. Now, in this particular song, he could be referring to opium. He does mention china town, but he also mentions cocaine. Either way, it is still a good song, and we are arguing semantics.

@tristhan1181 I'm not sure where you're from, or when, but I'm almost 50 and in the late 70's, 80's and on into the 90's I snorted, and smoked, many an 8ball of coke. I can freebase coke with ammonia or baking soda and have NEVER heard of that (freebasing coke) being referred to as chasing the dragon down. The Cptn dude is right. "chasing the dragon" has always referred to opium because it was such a popular drug in china for so many centuries. Awesome song, album and artist BTW

@CptnBlues Chasing the dragon is a way to describe freebasing. You chase the smoke as crack, cocaine, meth burn.

@zacd14 Cause most of us realise that this song is actually about something, and he isn' t "swearing" for the sake of it. If you can't appreciate the fact that "bad words" are the only suitable words for some situations then I just feel sorry for you. We all need to grow up and get past this pathitic political correctness concerning "bad words" Sure beep out swear words but every single one of us still knows what word is being used. Some people can't handle certian words which is just sad...

Just because he's not Robert Plant or one of them young guys like whoever the taste of the month is this week, it doesn't mean he can't sing. I think for what he does, he does great. Of course, you aren't going to hear him do any U2 covers or whatever, so what do you expect?
