this is awesome! I'm a beginner but I feel like turtle guard is underrated. Wrestlers use it for a reason, if one can learn how to protect oneself well here it's probably very viable
@Grapplinginstructionals
@Grapplinginstructionals 4 ай бұрын
You’re so right! It is very underrated and since so few people understand the mechanics, they don’t regalias the danger they are in. This becomes a great advantage for the guy using the turtle system. Magnus has a huge Turtle instructional in the making, and until then you can check out the attacking from turtle instructional from Raoul at grapplinginstructionals.com. It’s mind blowing!

@Grapplinginstructionals 5 ай бұрын
Yeah, a guy like Gordon would probably have a solid solution for this situation. The only question to ask is how often do you train with a guy like Gordon Ryan? He is the best there is in the world no doubt. This technique and the concept of the lockdown is extremely effective against most opponents. However if you are a guy who is rolling with guys that are on top of the BJJ world, then you probably don’t need 99% of anything on KZbin ☝️

That looks like an under/over hook on the top side, what do you consider as total topside control for the lock down
@Grapplinginstructionals
@Grapplinginstructionals 5 ай бұрын
Great question 🙌 In this video Magnus talks about the necessity to use an upper body control, be that over-under, or perfect underhooks, or double overhooks when using the Lockdown. The majority of the lockdown escapes that are being shown are against a person with only a leg connection.

The norm is everyone wants to dominate, smash and submit and win right. But when you have people doing things differently like this people start to get irritated or frustrated because they never think the unexpected. This defensive bjj style indeed works, it’s not perfect but it works. You’re shutting down a lot of attempts like attacks, passes ect. It’s a game of ultimate patience and timing. Instead of falling into the opponent’s game you easily make them fall into your game. Now obviously in competition it’s different and it requires a lot of game planning and training and time to test it in the competition scene vs in class training and rolling. But I love this style of BJJ because if you can’t beat em, make em work for it😆. Why rush for things when you can make the rush come to you with ease. It’s a psychological game and it works.

That’s awesome, I totally agree with you. You’ve really hit the nail on the head. And it’s exciting to see that this technique is constantly evolving. Not sure if you’ve heard, but Turtle 2.0 was recently released. The creator, known for submitting numerous opponents, has shifted to a much more aggressive, offensive stance. He’s utilizing the Turtle position to seamlessly transition into double legs, almost like a wrestler. It’s fascinating and definitely amps up the excitement. This isn’t the passive approach of the original Turtle; it’s an offensive Turtle game. If you’re curious, you should definitely check it out on grapplinginstructionals.com. It’s a fresh take on the Turtle strategy. Much more offensive

Nice vid. Very usefull. Really ammount of details. 02:00 a barrage of attacks from top stoner control. I reach top stoner every time because the EC is forbidden here in Brazil unfortunelly. So i slide the leg tru, going to a backtake attempt, otherwise its a guaranted sweep to top stoner.
