Sorry I never commented on this sooner. My second time veiwing this awsome epsisode. Flora got fleshed out, the new car characters were a delightful cast to watch bounce off of each other, and the reveal of Harry Topper beign Toham's brother-in-law as well as Flo Topper being Topham's sister was really neat. Harry gives me The Earl vibes of the way he acts except I get the feeling the Earl manages to go through his plans, is well liked more by Topham, and is a better business man than Harry. Not to Harry is a bad one as far as aI can tell. I just get the feeling his wife helps him a lot. Also Tiger Moth is back and is just suberb. I think gotta say, I think that has my attention the most was Ace and his relationship with Flora. It was hard to tell if Ace didn't care about Flora until the moment he saw Flora leaving in the middle of the race, enough to be that disracted and bothered by it to crash horrorifically. It was always a toss up either he was genuine or not with Flora. On hand, he made her feel included by being a "VIP" and even defended her a bit from Fraiser. On the other hand, he was a braggart all the same, had to get Belinda to introduce her to the racers, and never seemed concerned of how uncomfortable Flora was. Seeing how bothered, hurt, and bewildered Ace was at Flora leaving, it was clear Ace did care about her. I think if Flora never showed up to the race, Ace would've chalked it up as jsut another uptight engine with no sense of adventure and moved on with his life. The fact that Flora did make the effort to show up and early so she wouldn't miss the race actaully touched Ace deep down. Ace probably thought he found another kindred spirit in Flora. Sure, Ace could've paid more attention to how uncomfortable Flora was, but he is Ace, a showboat that was too preoccpied on himself and the upcoming race to focus on anyone else. He never meant to make Flora feel uncomfortable or anything. It was just Ace being Ace to preoccupied. The nickname of Suneshine makes it feel all the more genuine you, even heartbreaking when Ace was still calling out to Sunshine, still focused on the fact that Flora left rather than himself or winning the race. That speaks volumes to me considering this is Ace. I really hope we get a follow up on this. I don't recall Ace at least in this series having engines friends, left alone any kind of friends ones that fully supported him. It would be would be interesting where you take their friendship as well as potential character development between them, especially for Ace.

@agrady7216 On the production side, we felt that the scenes still worked without giving him a voice and wanted to try something new by including a mute character. He also didn't speak in the RWS book, so it's an additional nod. There isn't necessarily an in-universe reason why he doesn't speak, but maybe if he appeared again, it could come up, but the basic idea is he just doesn't talk

@@epiclafiteauThumper never spoke either, however he only appeared in one episode, Rusty and the Boulder, and he didn’t have much focus or screen time either, and he didn’t show much personality. Even though Rodney doesn’t speak, he still uses his horn seen at 11:45.

Ok... a bit on the fence about Belinda being adapted. Its nice adapting another Awdry character but I'm not sure about her face. Having the Thomas style faces somehow doesn't work for cars all the time. Also how come she's a hard top rather than rag top?

the hard top is a temporary upgrade meant for the race - i would advocate for the rag top if we saw her again but for our purposes here it made her a) harder to model and b) resemble herbie less, giving us not as much of an opportunity to do the poster fakeout as for her face - she would have definitely gotten one had they ever made an actual attempt at adapting her in the show itself (and within the book itself she is functionally a thomas character anyway)
