This is so useful and your explanation is excellent. Thank you so much! It turns out one USB-C hub/card reader, when plugged in, was causing audio glitches for me in Davinci Resolve when it jumped to new clips. I tried firmware updates, driver updates, ASIO buffer settings, sample rate settings, Davinci Resolve upgrade, reboot - but when I unplugged that device, the problem disappeared. Thank you once again for sharing your knowledge!

Wonderful explanation and demonstrations, thanks! You’ve answered a lot of questions I’ve had for years. I do have one more, though, albeit pretty low level: Assuming the audio buffer is a block of RAM that’s been reserved by the DAW SW, is the CPU triggered by a realtime interrupt to transfer the buffer of data to some other location for the audio HW to process, thus freeing up the RAM for new data? If not, what is the process of transferring the data? I offer a thousand thanks to know these details!

22:56 this is the part where system interrupts come into play. That’s a whole bag of worms there on its own. Windows is very inefficient.

I have a Dell XPS 2.10 gig processor with 64 gigs of ram. My pc has been chugging on audio/sample library projects recently within Cubase. I just upgraded to 128 gigs of ram. Boy, do I notice the difference. I no longer have to freeze tracks in my current 200-track 70 gig project file. I'm certain a faster processor would be great, too. However, I can speak for a ram upgrade, alone. It's worth the jump.

I happened to think of something after watching your video. You can actually set custom processing priority on your machine. In the Task Manager right click on the process for the application you want to customize and select Details. There you can set the processor priority for your DAW to High and additionally, if you know some other process/application that is is hogging processor time you can set that priority lower.

Thanks for not being an AI <3 Small advice : I seen that you upload your albums tracks by tracks, you'll have more views if you upload full album videos. You can do both though. Have a great day and thanks for sharing your work !

For low latency the performance of a single core is much more important than the number of cores.

Do you actually find music libraries need this music anymore? I've wrote an entire album in this ambient genre and submitted it to endless exclusive libs from the big ones to high end boutique ones to small boutique ones without any inch of success.

But i cant afford a new mac so its mininoc for me

I am incredibly intrigued by the new Intel hybrid CPUs. Based on the insights I gleaned from this video, I envision the potential for a significant real-time performance boost. By segregating slow drivers that frequently interrupt CPU processes for audio, they could be handled exclusively on a separate set of cores. Has anyone had firsthand experience with this? By the way, the video provides an exceptional wealth of valuable information, expertly curated and made highly accessible. Thank you for that!

Interesting, but would you spend sometime more to test the CPU FREQUENCY 's impact of the performance ? I think the take away from this one is that compared with buffer size, the core counts doesn't matter. It's on different levels of significance. But how about the frequency? If you can disable cores in the bios, I bet you know how to manually set CPU frequency. If you have one of those "unlocked" cpus (K series, didn't follow up the latest ones), you can set it into 2Ghz, 3Ghz, 4Ghz, 5Ghz... then you can see if this is the most significant influencer of the performance.

Wow though I'm one of those "computer guys" and have a very deep understanding of the computer system... this vid is still refreshing! Would you elaborate more with your PCI-e ssd situation? That's so surprising, curious to know if now this is rare or it's still safer to go with SATA?
