Hi. Thanks for the video very helpful to lots of people . I paid £800 for a 04 r53 in 2022 kept engine and gearbox just in case I need it in the future, sold the rest on ebay. Takes time and patients but if you have time worth it. Also found out a lot more about Minis and how they work or don't work. I made £1483.36 after costs. Carry on with the vids.

Definitely is good to see how it all goes together. It's always handy for spare bolts, clips etc - You were in a similar ball park to me as well with the totals - So shows if you want to put some time and effort in - Perfectly achievable to make some money and have some handy parts stored away for the inevitable issues that come up. Thanks for watching - Happy new year :)

Hi I have two cars im using for parts mini cooper and fiat 500 all from copart. Interesting video always wondered about selling parts. Thanks
@ThorMotorWerks4 күн бұрын
Glad it helped - Some parts are worth keeping for spares if you have a few of the same cars with friends and family - But there are a number of parts that I think I've kept for a while, I inevitably have a clear out and a week later I will need that part but that's just bad luck. I can't say I've had much involvement with Fiat 500s, but I have done a couple of Ka's in the past that share the same engine and there are a few bits on them that are re-occuring issues so I guess if you have a parts car you can't really go wrong ;)

When you showed the bolt holes not lining up on the radiator support @ 12:35, could that be caused by them using an R50 support? The contour of the top of the support on an R50 and an R53 are different as you know, and was the R53 bonnet forcing the R50 rad support downwards?
@ThorMotorWerks10 күн бұрын
@@OhioRed55 I think the holes are consistent across both. I think it’s more to do with the fact the crash bar wasn’t held in properly and there is a small amount of adjustment in the front panel before you bolt it down tight. So I think it’ll be fine when it’s going back together. The R50 front panel does stop the Airtec sitting properly though, which is why that has been a massive chunk of it cut out 😂

hello thank you very much for your video, I installed the xenons on the R53S thanks to you :) I just have a small problem, before I had the automatic leveling on the halogen headlights but it does not work on the xenons... Could you help me?
@ThorMotorWerks16 күн бұрын
@@francoiscalve3727 you wouldn’t have had autolevelling as that’s only on Xenon’s, if you have the headlight adjust that should still be working afterwards. It might be worth checking your xenon’s just to make sure they are firm inside, as there is a small ball and socket the upper section sits on - sometimes (Especially if they’ve been posted to you) that can get knocking in transit and as a result it won’t level properly until it’s reseated

@@ThorMotorWerks thanks for your quick reply I may have expressed myself badly, sorry On my old OEM halogen headlights there was a level adjustment when turning on the ignition (you could hear the electric motor) I understood that I don't have the "automatic" adjustment because I don't have the front and rear level sensors but on my new xenon headlights I don't hear the sound of the electric motor when I turn on the ignition, is there perhaps an option to choose on NCS Expert?

@ThorMotorWerks29 күн бұрын
@@ferforri You’ll need the following for the full set of clips (Obviously twice the number if you’re doing both sides): 07130702966 x16 51118174185 x18 07131480419 x6 07137073915 x2 You’ll probably need some double sided tape as well, I’ve been using the 3m VHB tape. For the door sill section to hold that down. I’d order a few spares on each clip. As it’s easy to damage them trying to fit them.

@ThorMotorWerksАй бұрын
@@The_Honest_Reviews_Channel The car was originally in Northern Ireland so close to the sea - The sea air probably did it no favours. Salted roads are another cause. The main thing is the subframe has been replaced now and that was the main thing that suffered from corrosion in this instance.

I had this same issue this summer with my 2008 R52S with dealer installed JCW kit with 85,000 miles. My tech went thru the same procedures (except for swapping the ECU -- mine has an OEM ECU). Still had the same slow start after all the swapping of parts that you just swapped (all with MINI OEM), just maybe slightly better. Until we replaced the whole fuel pump and filter assembly with new MINI OEM -- now it starts like new with a quick fire. (Fuel filter had been replaced previously a few years prior, so it was not the original filter.) I had read some forums talking about pump replacement as a solution, so I had my tech swap it out even though the pump technically met the testing parameters within spec. My assumption was that perhaps 16 years and 85,000 miles of summer driving (including some very hot temps in the US southwest and midwest this year) was probably enough for this old pump. Replacing a 16 year old electric pump didn't seem like an unreasonable thing to do. Has made a tremendous difference.
@ThorMotorWerksАй бұрын
Thanks, it’s definitely one to keep in mind. I think the next step is probably to go back to where it was mapped and get them to have a look and see if they can tweak it a bit. Maybe worth sticking a new pump in ahead of that so it can be remapped but with everything updated.
@BrownsFaninIowaАй бұрын
@@ThorMotorWerks The tech recommended replacing the entire assembly (instead of just the pump) as it includes all the hoses and misc pieces and parts that cannot be ordered separately. Since the whole mess was 16 years old, it made sense to me to replace it all. We did have issues afterwards ensuring both floats worked freely. One got caught up and didn't swing free which then messed up the computer's calculation of fuel level. So that is something to pay very close attention to as you re-assemble. The tech kept having to take it apart and reassemble before he realized what was going on with the float -- and in doing so tore the rubber gasket and had to replace it. Love your work on the first gens -- helps me to better understand how these cars work and are assembled. Plus helps me to better visualize where the various components reside and what to be on the lookout for when I am talking with my tech.
