Thanks. I found a card from the American Canal Association, which provided a lot of info on the canal. The rest was from the FERC license.

Some urban archeology there. Old. New. Frankendam. Great history.

Looks like the water is way lower than it once was. Now its all abandoned looking and haunting. A metaphor for life. Great text story which gave context. Very interesting.

They are taking the dam out, right?

No, just performing repairs on the low-level outlet gates and mid-level outlet.

That is one in a group of dams (Livermore, Otis, Jay, Riley). The newer Otis powerhouse on the West bank is producing power.

Part of the top of the dam broke off? Disturbing.
@RalphBaby6767 ай бұрын
No, the water-retaining structure of the intake is intact and untouched, which is the "dam" at the intake. The downstream powerhouse and mill have been demolished.
@dl33tc0dr67 ай бұрын
@@RalphBaby676 No I'm talking about the opposite side of the river-it appears part of the dam has chipped off.
@RalphBaby6767 ай бұрын
@@dl33tc0dr6 Correct, the Original Powerhouse and expansion powerhouse superstructures have been removed, leaving the original intake structure which now remains as a water-retaining structure. It looks like the flood wall on the original intake deck was repaired. The handrail and trashrake remain on the intake.
@gusjones93887 ай бұрын
So, they're not demolishing the dam?
@RalphBaby6767 ай бұрын
As far as I know, it is just the Otis Mill. I would expect that the Mill penstocks and gates have been grouted closed and the former intake will remain as a water retaining structure. I did a brief news search and didn't find any descriptions.
@RalphBaby6767 ай бұрын
In the video, it looks like the flood wall across the back of the intake structure has had recent maintenance.

I took my drone over that damn in the summertime. I have a DJI mini maverick two
@RalphBaby676 Жыл бұрын
I was flying my Mavic very low under the overhead powerlines which interfered with my video link. Didn't affect flight control (visual), but lagged and delayed the video link. You will note that I stopped frequently to wait for the video to re-establish. This was the only time that I have experienced that type of interference.

Lol it was YOU who scared away all the sea gulls. What a blast that scene was though. I had never seen anything like it
@RalphBaby676 Жыл бұрын
I was trying to be very careful and avoid affecting any of the gulls. I did catch video of the gull hitting the overhead powerline along the bridge at 0:53 of the video; watch for the gull crossing the stream at the bridge. One of the photographers said that he flew off OK. It was very gusty, (gusts were 30mph aloft) and I'm sure it affected the gulls flight.

@@RalphBaby676 no worries. I had already captured the frenzy on video and am just a beginner photographer practicing action shots in the feathered chaos. One day maybe I'll have lovely tools such as yours :)

Great video Ralph! Can't do that with pronghorns out in the SW... They take off before you can get within 200 yards! Nice lighting... You ought to be able to get some good stills out of that footage!

Have you tried those newer "stealth" blades, which are supposed to lower sound emissions. Nothing you can do about sound during accelerations (slowing, turning, speeding), but I was going to try them and see if it makes any difference.
