If you'd told me it was a session IPA, I'd have enjoyed it more, but I had my hopes up for a lot more blood orange.

I could totally see that. It kind of drank like a Session IPA, for sure. I was happy with the blood orange, though. I was worried it'd be way too orange-forward and turn out more like a Radley/Shandy. I could crush a ton of 'em, though. Cheers!

I just picked this up for the first time because I was curious about it. Yeah I'd say there's nothing special about it. Tastes like any other cheap generic adjunct corn forward flavored lager. I guess I was fooled into thinking it was some sort of hidden gem by what people were saying and that is was better than a Corona Extra but its really not and is very similar to it however it is a $1 cheaper so I'd choose it over a Corona because of that. So at the end of the day if price point matters, you can say at 9.99 a 6 pack its a good deal in this day and age for a import adjunct lager but overall its just not worth it to me since theres other beers that are so similar that are cheaper.

To me, it's solid, but that's about it. Don't love the style. Still think my favorite is Bohemia because it's a bit different, but not radically different. I'd take this over Corona all day long, but if I ever get that beer tournament idea of the ground, I guess we'll see, haha! Cheers, Chaz!

It might be because they've never been a brewery known for their hop-forward beer. It's always been about Dead Guy Ale, their Chocolate Stout lineup, Hazelnut Brown Nectar and a few others. They've had a couple good IPAs like Yellow Snow, for instance, but I rarely see hop-forward beer from them. I didn't rock with them for a long time because their beer was always more expensive than the others, but I've grown to enjoy them more and more over the past few years. This is a good example of a damn enjoyable beer. Cheers, brother!

Oh that typo really bugs me to. 😄 Your thoughts about Lychee I find interesting. I’ve also never had it but I imagine my thoughts would be very similar to yours. Because we never grew up eating lychee we don’t have that flavor hard wired in our brains whereas someone from Asia it would likely be very distinct. You were probably trying to compare it to other fruits but if you were eating a peach for example you wouldn’t. It just tastes like a peach. Not really a solid takeaway from what I just said, but I always find the experience interesting trying new fruits like that. Anyways this beer sounds pretty good. Can’t go wrong with Citra and I’ve always found Cashmere a pretty solid hop as well. Also hopefully whatever’s going on with Premier Gourmet isn’t too big of a blow to your beer purchasing. I had an amazing local beer store extremely close to where I live and the guy closed it down at the beginning of the pandemic if I remember right. Losing beer stores sucks!
@averagejoe716
@averagejoe716 3 күн бұрын
FFS, Curtis. KILLIN' ME, BRO! LOL! Yeah, lychee was a weird experience. Didn't taste specifically like anything to me. Just a generic sweet tropical fruit vibe. Like a mix of a bunch of different fruits. Maybe it'd grow on me if I ate more, but they're crazy expensive around here. Think a small container that had like 10-12 of 'em was $7. Crazy because they're so small. I think what you're saying about that nostalgic feeling makes complete sense, though. The thing about Premier is they let go of their manager and his right-hand man. The manager has been there for like 20 years and has forgotten more about beer than I probably know. His right-hand man is a good dude, as well. Always had things waiting for me when I show up, and generally knew what I enjoy. With both of them gone -- and them not getting much fresh beer over the last two months -- it's an absolute bummer. It was my go-to place for most things. Their import section is the best in the area. No other store in Buffalo rivals it. Plus, 98% of the beer they have in-stock you can buy as singles. It really sucks. Luckily, Chris over at Brewed & Bottled in Lewiston (about a 20 minute drive), knows his stuff and gets some cool beer. He just doesn't carry as many imports or "shelfie" beers, so it's going to make it a bit tougher. First world problems, of course. Cheers, man!
@curtisbrause9255
@curtisbrause9255 2 күн бұрын
@@averagejoe716 Dang! That really sucks for those guys and the thing they don’t realize is likely a lot of people like yourself go to that location specifically because they really know what they’re doing stocking beer. Also sucks for you and for everyone else who went there as their main location. Hopefully those guys land another spot at a beer store and you can start going to the new spot. That is expensive for lychees. I’ve never even seen them in the store but I think I would purchase them once just out of curiosity. I’ve had lychee candy before but it tasted like you said. Kind of a generic tropical flavor, although that’s a lab emulating flavor and most fake flavors don’t taste that much like the actual fruit really.
@averagejoe716
@averagejoe716 2 күн бұрын
Yeah, I feel for them, for sure. They're both great dudes who know their stuff, and I honestly don't think they can replace either of them with someone who has as much knowledge and passion for beer. I think they made a big mistake, but then again, I don't know the ins-and-outs of the store. Like you said, I'm sure there's a bunch of other people who are equally as disappointed for many reasons. Just a terrible situation. Wegmans is a bit more expensive than most places, but I honestly haven't seen them anywhere else. Maybe an Asian market would have them, and probably for cheaper, but there's only like one or two that I know about locally. I might have to investigate a bit more, honestly.

LOL! I'm glad you watched it, and it's even better that you understand where I'm coming from. I don't think you sound conceited at all -- and I don't think Ryan did, either -- but it might come off that way to a few people since you guys are so passionate and PROUD of your West Coast hop-forward beer, so people think you're talking crap about their inferior beer, haha! The fact is that most of the breweries that you drink in California do those beers proper, and not many breweries outside of the state have caught up, especially when it comes to the new-age West Coast hop-forward beer, or even the "California IPA" style. I was pleasantly surprised by this one, as Sloop is known for their juice bombs, so it made it even more impressive. Does it compete with a Green Cheek, North Park or Everywhere WCIPA? I don't think so, but for a brewery that is essentially a shelfie brewery, my expectations were more than met, and I came away much more impressed with this offering. Cheers, Joe!

I used to be a serious beer snob. Thought all American corn lagers were garbage. When I was a teenager I did enjoy Hamms beer. Now I am a lot older and I decided to dive into American lagers. To my surprise there are few really good ones out there at a price point that is hard to argue. Most Anheiser Busch beers are bland. Bud has too much rice. But I enjoy Busch much more than Bud. 4.3-5% abv is fine. You can drink several of these and not get drunk but have a nice pleasant buzz. I don't like feeling drunk but I like nice and functional buzz. This is a perfect beer. Hamms and Raineir are my favorite American lagers. This is a slightly cheaper and easier to find than Hamms and Raineir. I am done buying over priced craft beers. I don’t mind a good foreign or domestic craft beer at all but on a regular basis Busch, Hamms, Rainier are excellent, smooth, delicious and refreshing.

Thanks for the comment, Robert! I've always respect people's choices in beer. Never did the whole beer snob thing because, in life, we enjoy what we enjoy. The reason I jumped into craft beer is because I wasn't a fan of American Adjunct Lagers, as a whole. However, over the years, I've come to appreciate some of them. While I don't really like Busch, it's super inoffensive, and I can see why folks like yourself enjoy it. Honestly, Hamm's is probably in my top-five. Never had Rainier or Olympia. They're on my beer bucket list, actually. My favorites are Genesee Cream Ale, Narragansett Lager, Miller High Life and Hamm's. Probably a few others I'm missing. I've always been intrigued by the regional American Lagers. It's so cool to read the history of some of the beers, and trying them is always exciting. Cheers, man!

LOL! What's funny is I'm actually somewhat lactose intolerant. If I have a piece of cheese or some lactose in a beer like this, I'm usually OK, but if I eat a bowl of ice cream or a whole glass of milk, LOOK OUT. Could be worse, I guess. Cheers again, dude!

GET OUT OF MY HEAD, BUD! LOL! Honestly, you guys are spoiled for that West Coast goodness, man. I miss some North Park, Green Cheek, Highland Park, etc. I do have a West Coast IPA review coming out tomorrow that is pretty good, but pales in comparison to the California-brewed WCIPA. Cheers, buddy!
