I did just pick this up because the store I went to had lots of empty shelves and there wasnt much else I was interested in that I hadnt had yet. I like that its well balanced but I cant give it higher than a B rating. Its really good I just dont care about IPAs that much. If I was to drink a IPA regularly I would drink this.
@averagejoe716
@averagejoe716 Күн бұрын
That's fair. My 4/5 is probably more of a B+, but I could see a B. This is a solid, run-of-the-mill IPA. Definitely quaffable, well-priced and enjoyable, but not doing anything crazy. A "fridge" IPA, as in if this was year-round, you could stock your fridge with it for friends who come over or whenever you want to reach for an IPA that's good and affordable. Cheers, man!

I have never had a beer that was a white Russian beer that I can think of. I would definitely pick up a white Russian beer if I saw it as I love white Russians. Labatt Blue use to be 5 percent abv here in The USA. I am not sure what year but at some point they changed it to 4.7 abv. If I had to guess they changed it around 2015-2016.
@averagejoe716
@averagejoe716 Күн бұрын
I remember hearing about that. Weird they changed the ABV, but I wonder if it has something to do with it now being brewed at the Genesee Brewing Company in Rochester, NY? Feel like that would make some sense, but who knows. Appreciate the information and comment, Richard! Cheers!
@richarddougherty570
@richarddougherty570 Күн бұрын
Yes, Genesee is brewing Labatt and Blue Light. You can tell the products that are coming from Rochester because it will say “Pristine Pilsner “ on the Label. The Canadian made Labatt will say “Canadian Pilsner “. Here in Pennsylvania we still get most of our Labatt from Canada. We are getting some Labatt that Genesee brews though.
@averagejoe716
@averagejoe716 Күн бұрын
Interesting. I think it'd be cool to do a side-by-side of the American and Canadian brewed offerings at some point, just to see if the 0.3% ABV -- and where it's brewed -- makes a huge difference or not.

Definitely have been a fan of this beer, though I’d be lying if i said the can art didn’t help me pull the trigger on a 6-pack haha. Spot on review and agree it was a little on the pricey side - i think i paid $13.99, wouldn’t go any higher than that for sure. But a damn tasty old school ipa! Definitely not life changin’ but solid as hell. I have one of them glasses - an imperial stout trooper glass - and am very much just counting down the days until it breaks, lol. Cheers to the weekend, sir!

The can art is great, for sure! I think $13.99 is more in-line with what I'd expect this beer to be, but it was a few bucks more expensive here, which is a bummer. That said, it's very good for what it is, and I'm glad DFH goes back to their roots from time to time. I can't wait to revisit 75 Minute IPA, too. Sucks about that Imperial Stout Trooper Glass being the same shape as this one. I'm also counting down the days until I throw this one out because it crumbled in my hands as I wash it, haha! @ Those are all good choices! The Dankhouse can is I think one of the best I’ve ever seen and I really like that Side Project can design as well. I was surprised you went with Alto Body Experience over Goblin mode but really can’t go wrong with a Hoof can. Lol. I’ve never had 75 minute. Had 60 and 90 years ago a bunch and 120 minute twice. I’m sure 75 minute is somewhere between 60 and 90 minute. 😆

I went with the Alto Body Experience over Goblin Mode just because I wanted two straight alien-themed cans next to one another. The other one is from Service Brewing, and I think they look cool next to one another. Really? Damn! 75 Minute IPA is just like 60 and 90 Minute where it's continually hopped for 75 minutes, but they also brew it with maple syrup from Sam Calagione's family farm. I liked it more than 60 and 90, honestly. It used to come in a big 750 ml bottle.

Why is a small town in New York brewery using the country of New Zealand for branding. Seems odd to me. Doubt people buying it even know what a "Haka Dance" is. I only know what it is because I used to watch rugby back in the day. I know craft beer is filled with weird and odd brandings but this is just another one I guess.
@averagejoe716
@averagejoe716 3 күн бұрын
Pretty simple reason: both beers use New Zealand hops. Many breweries do the same with New Zealand or Australian hops, so it makes sense. Not so much about paying homage to New Zealand itself, but more so about the hops that they brew the beer with. Tree House has done the same, as have many other breweries. Cheers!

I think it's one of those things where a brewery like this just buys from a company or companies that do all the legwork for them. Griffon, while relatively new and definitely small, have four Gastropub locations locally that have been very successful. Don't think money is much of an issue.

This one definitely caught my eye when I peeped it randomly in an nyc bodega, just didn’t make sense for me logistically to pull the trigger on a 4-pack. Also as to be expected it was marked up I think somewhere around the $18 range. Fun review sir! Ultimately doesn’t sound like i missed out on anything life changing, but it sounds somewhat unique and mighty quaffable.

No way I'd pay $18 for it. Wegmans was charging $13.99, which is probably appropriate for what it is. I think you probably made the right call, but if you see a single -- or a cheap four pack -- it's worth giving it a go. Fonio adds a cool dimension to this one, but I don't think it's big enough to justify this as a must-try beer. Definitely quaffable, but not life-changing whatsoever. Cheers, sir!

All I meant by that, Brennagon, is I was sharing/drinking a bunch of different beers prior to drinking this one (when I originally had it), so it wasn't on a fresh palate, hence my palate being compromised. It's way different drinking this on a fresh palate. That's all.

Was going to skip out on a Guinness as the stout this St Pat but now hope to spot this one. This, a marketing ploy on my attitude.

LOL! Definitely a marketing ploy, to some degree, but this is worth grabbing if you see a single, or a four pack that's reasonably priced. Not setting a new standard whatsoever, but the Fonio adds enough uniqueness that it's worth trying once. Cheers, buddy!

I got a great question....did you have more or less appreciation for the beer, after finishing the can? I would recommend the beer for Pabst fans, a little lighter in body, with more carbonation. Correct me if i am wrong.

About the same appreciation, honestly. I understand why people enjoy this beer and drink it, but it's just not something that works for me personally. While you mentioned yesterday about this having less of a corn taste than MHL, I actually prefer a bit more flavor -- even if it's corn or rice -- than something that is quite watery tasting. I don't drink PBR or this enough to really comment on this tasting like a lighter version of PBR, but I could see it. All things considered, I still prefer non-light macro lagers over light macro lagers. I think most of them are a bit fuller body-wise and I prefer the slightly more robust flavor. Cheers!

I found the variety pack but I didnt buy it. The store only had the 2023 release there and they all said they were packaged on 9/23. I saw it and I was excited but I still had to check the date and of course it wasnt the 2024 edition It was $24.99. Oh well its not surprising. Granted its high abv beers so they probably would have still been good but its the principle of it. Should have had the 2024 pack sitting there, not 2023. That store still had summer variety packs from last summer from various breweries like Brooklyn and Troegs sitting there on the floor area. Probably not a store I'll be going back to.

Yeah, that sounds like a store I'd stop shopping at. That's ridiculous. Most of the beers should be fine, but when you're using adjuncts, they can totally fall off quickly, so I wouldn't have chanced it. If it were the 2024 offering, I would agreed that it's an easy buy. That sucks. Cheers, man!
