Its always baffled me when i see people complaining modern trek is "too woke" Trek has always championed things like this, even back to the TOS era, almost getting shut down by conservatives for portraying things they hate too positively. If anything, especially compared to some of my absolute favorite episodes from DS9 (like the one with the Bell Riots which slaps the audience in the face with "stop being pieces of shit and start caring about whats going on around you") modern trek is LESS woke. it could definitely be doing MORE to champion causes like it used to.
@BlazingOwnager Жыл бұрын
DS9 did all of the diversity and strong female characters they want today, except it made them compelling and not suck horribly by being deep as a puddle and stopping to lecture the audience about current day issues every 3 minutes
@Kilonovae Жыл бұрын
I love when people like you say things like this because the exact same pearl clutching going on today went on then. You know how many times Trek got almost cancelled because it showed things deemed unacceptable by conservative bigots too favorably? the same complaints of "lecturing" now were used then when Trek positively portrayed interracial relationships or supported George Takei when he came out.

And Far Beyond The Stars was… what, exactly?
@BlazingOwnager Жыл бұрын
@@marcwanagas1234 They earned one indulgent artsy episode by that point. It was also pretty well done. Every time race came up it felt earned and poignant. That brief interaction, less than a second, where Quark mentions the Ferengi are better than humans because they never had slavery and the glare he gets was spot on.
@BlazingOwnager Жыл бұрын
@@Kilonovae I quite remember, but TNG got this flak way more than DS9. Even then, still, they'd try to generally explore most issues from each angle (even if they favored one) and typically write a good story around the allegory, rather than ham fistedly slamming it into a 1:1 box.

I never understood why bajorans could believe in “the prophets” as gods and not believe in the Q as gods. They know the Q exist and the Q could erase the prophets if they wanted.
@metamorphicorder Жыл бұрын
That is specious. It certainly sounds good. But we dont reallt know. It may well depend on where the ecounter takes place. Q seemed pretty excited when q invoked the borg and the as yet unexplained showdown between Q and guinan.

its never fully explained how powerful the prophets are they might well have been more powerful than Q! Remember its never stated that Q is the most powerful beings in existance! As for the bajorians as in life being all powerful is not the only criteria for being thought of as a god,many cultures have gods with almost no powers or lesser powers than other but their still considered gods
@Yasuda9000 Жыл бұрын
@@roobear78 In Star Trek Online, during their anniversary events while you are traveling across certain parts of the Quadrants. Q (Q junior) makes certain comments about the alien races that are there. If you are in the Bajor Sector, Q (Q Junior) will mention that the last time he was in the Bajor sector, the Prophets basically did not like that he was causing some mischief with the Bajoran people that they basically told him to get out. He seems to think that they could hurt him. It is possible that the Prophets can hurt a member single from the Q Continuum. Q Junior's father Q was on Deep Space Nine during the shows earlier seasons but was only in one episode. The Prophets didn't show up or tell him to leave but that might have been because he wasn't causing problems to the Bajoran people but was just simply hanging around and was there because he wanted to know why Vash decided to return home to the Alpha Quadrant and maybe Earth instead of exploring the rest of the galaxy like she wanted to after meeting him during an episode in Star Trek the Next Generation. The Deep Space Nine crew blamed Q for some power fluctuations that they were having but it was actually something Vash acquired during her travels in the Gamma Quadrant with Q. It was huge crystal that later turned out to some sort of alien egg that was siphoning the stations power so it could hatch faster and also causing the station to move closer to the Bajoran Wormhole. Q was aware what was going on but chose to let everyone on station figure it out for themselves for his amusement. They were able to beam it off the station and the creature that hatched from the egg looked like a golden stingray and it went through the wormhole back to the Gamma Quadrant. Before this happened, Q did decide to have some fun with a little fight with Sisko. And Sisko did punch Q. Q seemed surprised but also thought it was interesting. It is possible that the Prophets told Q not to return after this since the Prophets were interested in Sisko and might have been protective over him since he is technically one of them as revealed in certain details in the last season of Deep Space Nine.
