I approve, but am curious exactly how you will utilize both the Theatrical and Assembly cuts. It's a shame fans rejected it because it wasn't the lollipop and unicorn version they thought it should be. The Alien trilogy is a tragedy about Ripley. In Alien she's left alone to do what she can to survive. In Aliens she wakes up to find her entire world gone, including her daughter, but believes she's found a new family with Rebecca. In Alien³ she loses Rebecca and Dwayne while helpless in cryo, not unlike when she lost Amanda. Worse, she has little time to grieve when she once again must deal with the alien threat. That is made even more challenging due to the alien inside her as well as the apathetic ignorance of the Fiorina 161 residents. It was a fitting conclusion to Ripley's story. It also added another element to the Xenomorph biology while avoiding being a remake of either previous film. As such we had scifi horror, scifi action (with horror), and a scifi character study (with horror). Alien Resurrection was aptly named. After the poor response to 3, it was a weak attempt to do just that with both the character and franchise, sullying both in the process, in my opinion. I had no issue with the franchise continuing, but I wish they had left Ripley behind and gave us something completely new (with more intelligent characters).

A stereo to 5.1 upmix is just not the same as a proper 5.1 native mix.

True, but it's the best I've got. The default audio will be the stereo track, with upmix 5.1 as an alternative option.

My issue as a kid even, watching all these films, was that from ALIENS to this, the rod puppet alien FX with incorrect black levels and matte lines stood out to me even back then... so VERY NICE job fixing that up as that was one element that sort of tarnished an otherwise stellar series of films with ahead-of-their-time effects that hold up.

Overall I prefer the Director's Cut, especially the ending, but the Theatrical Cut also contains some brilliant moments. This project sounds great, can't wait.

The ironic thing for me is that the director cut is the kind of noir movie I would usually enjoy and closer in spirit to the source material Parker … while the theatrical is very much a formulaic star vehicle for Mel Gibson. BUT I can’t help it : I simply love the theatrical cut. Personally It’s Mel Gibson at his absolute best. Riggs is fun but too mad dog. Max is too stern. What women want is too cute. Porter is the complete Mel Gibson package. He has this “ good to be bad but I am kinda good ” vibe. At ease with a gun but still devilishly charming. Superbly competent and sometimes even cold as a stone but just enough of a smartass and with enough blockhead moment to make him relatable. The blue tint, the voice over,. Perfect.

So excited for this edit. I'm sure it's not possible but it would be so amazing to see the horrible rotoscoping issues with the alien puppet fixed. Those shots were distactingly bad when the movie first came out, and they're just as bad now. Love the movie, aside from those shots.

That was the whole point of this edit. There are many other improvements and alterations, but the rotoscoping and compositing has been fixed in - no exaggeration - every single vfx shot in the movie.

Cool project!!! Alien 3 is a longtime favorite, and I always had issues with the Assembly Cut losing some of the best moments from the Theatrical Cut (Dogburster/Queenburster particularly). Much better text on screens in the intro, too; the After Effects Andrews reflection never worked for me. KIck ass, maybe this can be a definitive version for Alien Three Enjoyers.

I'm failing to see the improvement in those wipes. It just looks a little contrastier and less cinematic, with more magenta and neutral hue. I prefer the before in every case except the VFX shots. The Alien compositing is a HUGE improvement, though. The lead scene looks INCREDIBLE! I always thought the VFX would have been solid if not for that piss poor compositing. Is it just the Assembly Cut with new grading, or a different edit? I think you should leave the grade and just fix the VFX. But will still watch!

For me this move still sucks in 4K or any format, the assembly cut, the plot and Alien are a complete shit show. They should have gone with Giger's weird and bizarre creature design. After Aliens, it is all down hill, why can't people just accept that. I hate the story and the concept, the puppet still looks like garbage, and the british actors.... It's the same with Predator, after the first film, each sequel gets worse and worse. Say what you want but Alien 3 sucks as a film.

Alien 3 never gets the praise it deserves... I saw it in the cinema and really enjoyed it - sure there are issues, and there are things that maybe could've been fleshed out or changed, but the movie achieves a dark, isolated feel along with having some quality characters, brutal deaths and a decent storyline. Looking forward to the 4k version!

Wow. I'd missed this completely. Alien3 is by far the superior sequel, in my eyes. Adds to the Alien lifecycle without turning it into meaningless monster/cannon fodder. Can't wait for this cut to come out - but I'm glad to hear you're taking your time with it. Thank you.

Truly amazing work this is! I cannot wait to download the finished version and experience this. Alien 3 assembly cut is a fantastic movie but still had its flaws. I’ve always wished for a mix match of both the assembly cut and the theatrical as things like the dog burster and Ripley’s chest burster scene at the end of the movie were brilliant scenes. Now we get to experience the best of both worlds and a whole heap of other truly brilliant bits of clean up and editing. Again, simply fantastic work and thank you so much for making this movie that little step closer to being the 3rd perfect movie in the trilogy!

This is the first I'm hearing of this. Easily my favorite of the trilogy. The visual upgrade looks amazing. Now, whether the Amalgam is better than the Assembly, we'll just have to see.

Alient 3 is sooo underrated! For me, this is where the Ripley saga ends, it was a perfect ending to her story and Resurrection didn't really need to happen. I hope this project continues and completes its mission!👏👏👏👏👏

Such an underrated film, it had a lot of issues but I still love the assembly cut. I always wanted to see a more structured ending from both cuts that made Morse stand out from the others seen as though he is pretty much the sole survivor of the film I feel like his character got lost in the mix amongst the other similar looking characters.

Love alien 3.. i liked it had great British actors in it. Only let down to me is what everyone thought was cgi but was actually miniature puppets enlarged and were badly edited. I hope one day they'll remaster it so aliens look like they are on the set.

Interesting comparison. Will have to say in light and more colour looks impressive, and the plus point is the grain from the original source seems to stay intact, which is more we can say for some Hollywood 4k releases recently.

Good to see a place like this exists, a safespace for Alien 3 fans. Also, to all those posting their disconcertment at all the hate this film is getting... It took me a long while, but I got it eventually. It's quite simple. Aliens brought an action movie audience to the film, and they appropriated it. Action movie fans... let's just say they aren't the brightest.
