Just reflecting on your comment. Did you listen to some of my other fingerpicking instrumentals and if so, how did they compare to this one? I’d be very interested to know!

You've got a clear knowledge of the blues scale in here, I would greatly suggest working on your rhythm and mastery of more of the scales associated with the chords you're trying to play over, so that you have more than 6 notes are your disposal for improvising.
@Robrien116223 күн бұрын
I’m not playing over any chords. It’s a scale based short improv.

@@Robrien1162 Fair enough, but scales and harmony are connected intrinsically! Sounds like E minor blues. Pentatonic blues scale will always work, yes, but scale degree 7 in particular is suuuper important traditionally over the blues, making use of it would step up your lines a lot! And rhythm improvements will help you out hugely, too

I was able to pick it up in the time your video took, the only thing I struggled with was the timing. Yours sounded much more melodic than mine
@Robrien116211 ай бұрын
Good job, Kirk! The key to the timing is practice. Practice the pattern slowly. That will enable you to focus on the timing. The goal is to get the pattern to be automatic, where you can play the pattern without thinking about it.

You can pinch on the first beat, you would need to do this if you wanted to play Dust in the wind for instance

Yes, it does require practice, until it seems easy. Diagrams is a good idea. Perhaps I could add them in a future video.

Thanks! I’d be interested to hear how that works out. There is a technique called hybrid picking where you use the pick and your fingers, but Ive never really tried it.
