Kenny De Meirleir also thinks it has all to do with the gut, that it is due to harmful gut bacteria. I have a bacterial overgrowth in my gut (tested by this doctor) and sure enough I have ocd, also signs of autism.
@JohnnyX123911 жыл бұрын
My doctor also said that a couple came and the woman had ocd, and he told me that after the antibiotic treatment the man said that "he had his wife back" in his own words. It's as if, if you find the underlying infection behind ocd, you are on your way to get better. I'm sure you hate being treated with medication that never actually take the symptoms away, only mask them a bit..I know..the doctors name is Kenny De Meirleir, you can look him up on google or wikipedia.

You might find this hard to believe, but I have mild OCD and I am being treated for it with antibiotics..ocd is something that is kind of related to autism spectrum and some scientists now believe there is an infection behind those illnesses. Believe it or not I'm now getting antibiotic treatment and the doctor is expecting to almost fully cure it.

There isn't exactly a "cure" for OCD, but Cognitive Behavioral Therapy *does* help curb it. An example of CBT for OCD: I used to have to brush 20 strokes on each tooth, making toothbrushing take over 15 min. every time, so I 1st dropped it to 15 strokes and would record on a scale of 1-100 how distressing it was right after, then every 15 min. after, etc, until an hr & a half later, it didn't bother me. Gradually, it only bothered me at about 30points right after, & now it only takes 7 strokes

I just wanted to add that the ssri (selective sertonin reuptake inhibitor) medications such as Prozac, Zoloft and Paxil, may cause insomnia, but I take the antipsychotic Seroquel at night to help with sleep and since seroquel may help the dopamine neurotransmitter (a neurotransmitter is thought to help nerve cells to talk to each other), thought to be associated in those with ocd.
@Jannsmith12 жыл бұрын
If I may chime in, the medication can be a great adjunct to therapy, but please don't solely rely on meds for relief of ocd and instead (after talking with your doctor) consider cognitive-behavioral therapy ("exposure and response prevention"). The cbt may help if or when new symptoms arise.
@Jannsmith12 жыл бұрын
The two kinds of therapists who may administer cbt are a clinical psychologist (Ph.D. or Psy.D.) or licensed-clinical social worker (LCSW). Perhaps a board-certified psychiatrist may provide cbt, too, however, the psychiatrist usually handles the medication (if needed). I take the ssri (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor) prozac weekly, the time-released prozac, and seroquel (antipsychotic) at nite to help with sleep and the dopamine neurotransmitter, thought to be associated with ocd.
@Jannsmith12 жыл бұрын
I just wanted to add that cbt will initially cause one's anxiety to increase, but when one realizes that nothing "catastrophic" occurs if not performing a ritual, the anxiety should decrease. Those with OCD may have their symptoms wax (get larger) and wane (get smaller) throughout time, but the proper treatment can help those with OCD to handle those symptoms. Two good books about ocd and cbt include "Stop Obsessing!" by Edna Foa and "Brain Lock" by Dr. Jeffrey Schwartz.

I have OCD, too. Please know that there are very effective treatments out there for those who would like to get well. Cognitive-behavioral therapy (cbt), or more specifically for those with OCD, exposure and response (ritual) prevention, can be VERY effective and helpful to help the symptoms, including compulsions (rituals). The International OCD Foundation has more information and resources though *not* in place of cbt and/or medication.

I get no side effects from medication that I can notice. I still do a little things that are from ocd but the worst of the ocd is gone. Until they find a cure for ocd i will have to take medication every day.
