Do you find the lyre with no tail piece like those easier to tune and stay in tune?
@MoroLyreMusic
@MoroLyreMusic 3 ай бұрын
@@Gnomewoodworker That is an excellent question! As we speak, we are actually in the process of conducting some experiments and writing an article about different kinds of tailpieces. There are pros and cons to this way (no tailpiece), tuning is no different than with a tailpiece, but replacing a string definitely is... You have to remove and re-tune every string on top of the one you need to replace, so honestly we do not think they did it this way in ye olde days.
@Gnomewoodworker
@Gnomewoodworker 3 ай бұрын
@@MoroLyreMusic The reason I am asking is that I build Lyres and find that a fixed bar for the strings is easier to tune then the floating tail piece. I wished I lived closer to you peps would love to see a live performance someday.

@MoroLyreMusic

@@viperspit96 Hello from The Netherlands!! Feel free to ask your questions. To hopefully answer a few; we are playing replica's of Anglo-Saxon 6 string lyres. Instruments which were played around 1400 years ago. Ours are reconstructed from archeological finds at Sutton Hoo and Taplow. They are amazing to play! The language us a very old version of Frisian, the language spoken in The Netherlands also, around 1400 years ago. It's sadly a dead language now, but we have a few inscriptions left to us. Hope that helps!

I love the lyre playing and singing. Do you know what the sung lyrics mean?
@MoroLyreMusic
@MoroLyreMusic 3 ай бұрын
Thanks so much! And yes, we do! These words were found on 2 pieces of yew wood, recovered in 1917. The repeated line and title of the song; Birid Mi means carry me of wear me. The other lyrics are about how even the surf of the sea on the beach will bow down to however 'carries' this amulet. So, theory is that this was probably worn by someone for protection (in battle?). Hope this helps!

Hi! Thank you for the amazing tutorial! Just one question... can I play the cords with 16-string lyre? And does it make any difference if don't block the first strings and head to the open one? ( for example in Bm, just start from B and end in D.

Thanks for your comment! And it's a good question, I am actually not sure... We don't have a 16 string lyre, so I can't try it myself. The second quesion would be a no. It does not make a difference for the chord if you do not strum all the blocked strings. Hope that helps!!

What kind of harp is that? Are you changing chords by damping some of the strings?
@spikebakker7188
@spikebakker7188 9 ай бұрын
It's a Kravik lyre. You can play it by plucking the strings or by Block and Strum, like Ilja is doing here. You block/mute certain strings to get the chord you want. :)
