Quick raking with that lock, nice job! Did you try cutting the key on the other side of those jaws on the Framon? Sometimes that helps, also using a paper clip to fill the channel can help too. Just some ideas, looks like you got it in the end.

Happy Veterans Day! Thanks for getting this video out, it was a fun watch. As a note it’s always a good idea when you find, or suspect master pins to check the top chambers in the bible. There are likely a couple still in that lock you rekeyed creating unintentional sheer lines. Also lubrication prior to picking is helpful and makes shimming easier too. Just little things to consider. Loved the video. Hope you have a good Veterans Day brother!
@LCLockout11 күн бұрын
Just got to the part about you losing control when you use Houdini, for that I’d definitely recommend trying the technique Chirael recommends because even if it’s lubricated his method will give you control. Also never hurts to use a lishi in combination with shimming makes it a flash. I believe besides that deadbolt being audibly under lubrication and visibly corroded I believe those defiant deadbolts have some obnoxious spool pins that don’t do much against picking but sure make shimming a little tricky.

Great stuff man, thank you for your service, and your humility and sincerity is inspiring. Very cool of you to rehabilitate those locks back into service for folks in need. I have a few shim holders but never end up using them, I get just as good if not better results with my hands. When I back shim I try to hold the shim to maintain the curvature as I push, by holding the sides between my thumb and index finger and then pushing it forward with my middle finger. It seems less likely to bend that way, though it does still happen occasionally. Thanks for sharing this!

That knob is not classroom function, that is an entrance function. Also why are you putting a knob on a commercial property? That should at least be a lever, but it should most definitely be a panic bar because that is a fire exit. That should be ADA and fire code.

The app on the vvdi tool or on the computer? The vvdi tool comes with their own software. Updating the software on the device from my pc is done via the "xhorse update kit" software.

Working my way through this series finally. I definitely use a blank to shim unless something is feeling screwed up and I’ll switch to a regular hooked pick. As for stamping the keys I was having a lot of issues with it until I bought a mini anvil. I use the smallest one harbor freight sells (I’m sure any anvil would work) and it works incredibly well super clear impressions every time. Great video looking forward to the rest of the series.

I debate over doing tech stuff a lot. Technology is just a part of everything in our world, but don't want to over geek the channel. I compensate for the lack of locksmith experience using the technology out there (like using genericode over decoding wafers) when I can. I will definitely start doing more tutorials on the tech side. And remember, if you're going to hack the planet, you better be Elite.

@@JenkinsLocks no problem, I understand completely - you should make the content that you enjoy and get excited about, so if that’s not tech then skip it! I was just saying sometimes those little hacks you think nothing of, could help others. But if you think it’s too inaccessible to someone without a tech background then definitely skip it. And good reminder about being 1337, I’ll go work on that right now! 😁

Man, that just took me back to running a BBS on my 286 and days of the shareware kiosk at the local mall. I do get excited about technology and tend to go geek very easily. I've been on the fence on doing some tech video because I didn't know if anyone would be interested. The thing about tech is that it's not hard...when you know all the pieces. If I can help one person with some geek videos...then that's a big reason for this channel.

It's not a preference with keyed ignitions since you have to put the new key in and turn the ignition to the on position as part of the programming. If it's a fob, just depends on the day if I cut the emergency key first or not.

Great video! I think the repetitiveness of locksmith videos lets you pick up on small details of common tasks each of us does differently that can be improved on. Like somehow I never considered preloading my pinning mat for multiple lock rekeys like you do. Seems silly but you’ve cut my rekey time down by probably 1/3 with that trick. One helpful tip with the framon is make your own space and depth chart that is larger and easier to read for you and post it up in front of the framon so you just have to look up at it rather than side to side. I’ve got my most used keyways on a piece of paper set up easy for me to read and it helps so much so you’re not wearing those pages out and having to pull out the book every time.

I honestly don't remember when I started using those squares to prefill pins when just keying up a bunch of locks to the same key, but glad it helps. Definitely a good tip for the most used charts on the framon.

Idk why that depth adjust between cuts in the Framon 2 is a pia to me. I’m thinking when I get a 3D printer I’m gonna make a spacing block that’ll snap on for the depth portion so I don’t have to keep an eye on the graduations. That’s the only reason I prefer the 1200 over my Framon. It’s no big deal with a key here and there but if you’re doing a bunch I think it would be easier with a spacing gauge like the space block works. Of course I’d have to do several to fit the d/s’s unique to kw1 an sc1 etc. But I can’t believe someone hasn’t come up with something easier already. Great video. Thanks for sharing!

Not sure how they do key control, but my guess is they will all think they need the top level master key.
@JenkinsLocks6 ай бұрын
So, the understanding of what a master key system was not there. Most members had 2 SC1 keys (even former members kept them), the "master" and the "other" key...both keys opened everything except the padlocks (AM3 keyway). Best I've been able to see taking multiple cores apart, every lock was keyed for only a single change key. I have not been able to find anyone that actually ever had the change key, but the current key system was put in 15-20 years ago. So basically, everyone was issued either the grand master or sub master key (or both) and everyone could get into anything with either key. Part of the issue on working to define and explain a new, functional system was that they wanted to restrict some people to some things during some part of the year. They also wanted multiple master key systems based on individuals and for those master keys systems to fall under a single grand master key...a grand master key that was given to everyone on the council, but was seasonal on access. Real the struggle is. So let's say the system had the grand master key, 4 sub master keys (A, B, C, and D), with each sub master having 2-6 change keys. Most of the year, they want Joe's single sub master key to work on A, B, and C, but during fair week, for his single sub master key to flip and only work at C and D. Now take this and repeat for 12-20 people with individual "unicorn" keys.
@curtolocknkey6 ай бұрын
@@JenkinsLocks So they need an electronic system that can set/change schedules (expensive) or a locksmith on call that can rekey locks on short notice. And definitely key control with restricted keys. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is gonna be a pain in the (fill in the blank)…
