that was awesome thankyou. wonderful to see Tascot wharf and mudflats c1949
@gemstudiosaustralia8878 ай бұрын
Thanks! PS I have lived on the Coast for about 5 years now and every time I drive past Waterview Cres I have a look and I have never seen mud flats? Any idea why? Some of the wharves in the film are still there and a few years ago I got dad to stand with them in the background and took pics. Nothing had changed in all those years. Extra info for you. My Grandfather (the fisherman) worked as a guard on the railway at Hornsby and the family would stay at the Tascott house which was owned by his brother Jack (Jack Englert - "Englert's at Ryde" Ford dealers). Granddad would get the trains to throw a sack of coal from the train at Tascott as they went past (tooting the horn to let them know) and dad would take a wheel barrow across to the station and collect the sack. When filming dad walking on the flats dad cut his foot on a bit of glass!

@@gemstudiosaustralia887 wow thats an awesome story thankyou! Yeah I research and hunt all along Tascott, Point Clare and Koolewong for many years in the mud for old bottles. Defintely lot of broken bottles there and I always wear thick shoes and 3 pairts of socks. Im not convinced that is Victory Parade or Waterview Crescent in the video-but it could well be. The waterline hosues opposite definitely look familiar like Koolewong. However In re watching it I think it is Tascott mud flats must have been a very low tide. Usually not that exposed

This was great. I had no idea of his links to Woy Woy. It's wonderful that he is so fondly remembered there. In the 1990's I stood in line for a book signing by Spike in Manchester (England). A few minutes before I reached him, a phone began to ring in the shop and after the fifth ring he stood up, turned around and shouted at the top of his voice " will someone answer that bloody phone"! They did, and it reminded me that he really liked quietness and hated muzak/piped music. His signature on the photo in the museum also reminded me how carefully he signed my book. He signed his name in legible copper plate that took time to write (not a quickly dashed off squiggle). So, thank you for making and sharing this film.

That was very good thanks,. really enjoyed,. I too grew up with the Goon shows.. The musical duet was brilliant to see,. I wonder if the cornet mouthpiece was as such, so that it could be quickly changed onto another instrument ? - or perhaps to give the cornet a different sound that Spike preferred ?,.. //.. It is said that,. '''I told you I was ill''' on his headstone was considered too flippant - it was done - but in Irish,. [ Dúirt mé leat go raibh mé breoite ] I looked at,. and marked both of the properties on Google Earth.

Thx for the compliment. Spike started as a trumpet player so would have been more used to a trumpet mouthpiece. Same for me I prefer a trumpet mp but use standard cornet MPs when playing cornet
