Thank you. That is a nice example of a clear and methodical approach to the research, and to combining DNA information with the paper trail research to find a solution.

I take it you have no way of knowing for sure that she was in service in the Smart household as opposed to her being in service in another household, and just knowing/meeting William from elsewhere. Also - as an fyi, - I believe there is an error in John Smart's DOB & DOD on your slide at 9:31 (Both are the same as the DOB & DOD for his son William)

The 1861 Census showed Jane Seager as living with the Smart Family, and her "relationship" to the head of household is Servant. That indicates that she was a live-in servant at the John Smart household. Good catch with the typo! I probably copied the box and edited the name and missed editing the dates.

You might be interested in my Organizing your Digital Genealogy Files, where I discuss my system, and the icons further. kzbin.info/www/bejne/jKrcfXiPecmNrqMsi=iXqwxF-cUJW7cO7d But in short... I bought the Genealogy Icon Set from Folder Marker. foldermarker.com/en/genealogy-folder-icons/ The icons can be used just by the Windows operating system, but I also originally used the free versions of Folder Marker and File Marker. foldermarker.com/en/folder-marker-free/ filemarker.net/file-marker-free.php I eventually bought the pro versions for the added features (They do go on sale occasionally for great savings.)

Hi - your video was great - how can I find the icons you have on your folders? I have a Mac. Thanks.

I got many of them from foldermarker.com/en/ - the program is for Windows, but you can buy icon packs. Some I got elsewhere but I don't remember where.

Good to know. I have been a subscriber for several years. For some reason they did not auto renew me this year so I resubscribed during the January sale! Worked out good-but it sure surprised me when I signed in and couldn't see a lot of my info. Reminds me to save pics and documents to my computer!

Fortunately the information isn't lost - just not accessible when your subscription runs out.

I believe that burning letters to Santa (Father Christmas) in a fireplace is an old English tradition. My adult Christmas traditions, which are slightly different than my childhood are: making & decorating Gingerbread houses pre-Christmas (started in my childhood and continued with my kids and still continues with my grand kids); new p.j.s for the kids on Christmas Eve; kids could open 1 present on Christmas Eve prior to going to bed; entire extended family (siblings, in-laws, nieces, nephews, etc and now grand kids and grand nieces) gathering for a pot-luck meal on Christmas Eve (with a white elephant gift exchange added 15 years ago - but recently the gathering is not necessarily held on Christmas Eve due to the number of people attending); Santa left stockings at the foot of the bed for the kids to open to keep them occupied until 7:00 a.m. when they would be allowed to leave their rooms to open presents under the tree; presents opened one at a time (or a couple at a time, but definitely not a free-for-all); recent breakfasts have been gingerbread waffles but when kids were young it was more like granola bars and oranges until after gifts were opened; traditional turkey dinner with mashed potatoes, and various types of vegetables (cauliflower with cheese, carrots, brussel sprouts, green beans, cream corn, etc.).

Those are fantastic traditions. We had many similar ones either in my childhood family or my adult family... I could have talked for hours about the various traditions, so I just picked a few that were "different". Thank you for sharing yours!
