Visited my mums old offices (the room with a purple doorframe and the room overlooking the long hallway) and had a big explore of the whole building. Spent so much time here as a kid, will miss this place a lot - So many stories to tell and memories made here There is a bath tub upstairs which was always rumoured to have had a nun drowned and murdered in for becoming pregnant. It wasn’t allowed to be moved from the building for heritage reasons - rules made by the nuns. I laid in the tub as a kid and got locked in the room by my siblings. Was unreal to see the tub in the exact same spot all these years later (and yes I got a cheeky photo laying down in the tub XD) Cheers for the video. I may post my night time footage as well 👍🏻

More looking around revealed all the sad goodbye messages on the wall. It’s like I could feel them before I seen them Other parts of the building (like the kindy area) I could almost hear laughter and cheer seeping out of the walls. I recall my mum saying that early on they had a ship also housing kids just off the largs bay jetty back when the Orphanage was running. Sadly abuse will continue around the world due to the nature of sick and twisted people. Thanks for comment.

That building was built about fifty years back as a "Jobs and welfare" center to serve the day laborers and homeless that made up a large part of the residents of that neighborhood (Kamagasaki). About 2018 or so they closed it down for various reasons, the official and probably valid reason being that the building did not conform to modern earthquake safety rules. Another reason was that the population of day laborers have been getting older and dying off and not being replaced so a building meant to serve thousands of men looking for work was now serving a few hundred men who were using it as a clubhouse to hangout all day. These workers have always been politically active with a tendency to riot when provoked and the response to the closing of this building and its replacement with a much smaller building next door was to occupy the gates, at first just with people sleeping there and then piling ever more rubbish around their sleeping areas to make it difficult for cops to move them. You can see this progression on google maps timeline Personally my sympathy lies with the workers as they built much of modern Japan, have little to show for it and only want a place out of the rain, a little food and beer. If you go there at five in the morning the workers still gather looking for any jobs that might come around and just from force of habit as it is part of the neighborhood culture.
