Weird that no one said it yet, but the Passacaglia is highly reminiscent of Passacaglia und Fuge of Bach! (4th movement). Wonderful piece!

I enjoyed this very much. Many thanks for posting. I agree that Krebs deserves to be much better known.

These pieces are very interesting. Saint-Saëns was very famous also as organist. What organ are you playing here? Thank you for this nice upload!

What an incredible composition! I love how the ending of the fugue is the recap of the lovely melody in the first movement!

seriously, this rocks hard as Iron Maiden or Pantera. This is pro-metal! I tried learning this, but the hand cross-overs and 12/8 time signature are too much for me !

This is my first hearing of this cantata. It is one of his grandest. The noble chorale is long, and the movements are long in consequence, but they are never prolix. One can luxuriate in their length, orientated by frequent appearances of lines from the chorale. I am reminded of the great chorales Vater Unser in Himmelreich and .Dies sind die heiligen zehn gebote in Clavierubung III

Can I ask why, in this period, you often see that figure with an eighth note with a grace ornament followed by two sixteenths being played as four sixteenths? Why did they write it this way? Also, this third movement sounds so fresh.

Nice played! But Handel on a pianoforte...!? For me this music belongs to the harpsichord. I don't know if I like baroque musik on pianoforte or not..... On pianoforte it always sounds romantic......Difficult....🤔

It seems that I am going through a Dupré phase at present, and what a great discovery this is. It looks like I am about to purchase the album. This work makes me wish that Dupré wrote a Mass setting like Widor and Vierne did.

Did Saint-Saens specifically quote this in the carnival of the animals or was it just coincidental harmonic and stylistic similarities?

When i performed this B Minor Mass (which bach later expanded from this little gem) as a bass chorister with the Queensland Bachoir in May 1981, it gave me such a euphoria kick, {even the Soli Deo Gloria didn't negate it}, that i paid a visit presumptuously to the Premier of Queensland on the following Thursday. JBP had once been my dad's parishioner in Kingaroy (Premier aka flying peanut) & my Sunday School (SS) Superintendant.

Hardly surprising then that the security guards called the police, who kindly dropped me home to my loving but bewildered mother.... This really happened; truth is sometimes stranger than fiction, but i merely wish to emphasise what a great & unsurpassed piece of music diese H moll Missa ist!

You may have surmised by now that this was a hypermanic breakdown, and if not, be assured that it was. The requisite shrinks were consulted & i was heavily sedated with haloperidol & the shrink who was a fellow Lutheran pastor's kid recommended i be submitted to the psych hospital until i regained my senses.

The very thort of such incarceration along with the impact of the aforementioned H drug horrified my mum. (I was her first born) To this day I shudder to contemplate the possible deleterious consequences for my life, had i been admitted..... She was a very brave woman... (many woman are far braver than their dear men give them credit for). WHen she got her back up, the poor Dr didn't stand a chance.

After all that, i can only join Bach in a hearty "SOLI Deo gloria", and still tank God for such an amazing piece of music as this Mass. Yes we Lutherans are pretty Catholic in our liturgical sensitivities.... had i not broken down, i might've been ordained & gotten myself into far worse trouble. God surely blessed me out of that harrowing experience...
