I have an HAE69C. How exactly do you perform star alignment when in Alt-Az mode? The manual doesn't mention this at all.

Good eye, looks like the Altitude adjustment wasn't locked down or the bolt to lower and raise has some play in it, My CEM26 does this as well

The issue with the HAZ46 isn’t slewing. It’s the stock saddle which is way too small, and the poor alignment/goto. I don’t know how iOptron messed up the HAZ46 after they got it mostly right with their AZ Mount Pro. Other than increased capacity, the AZMP is better in every way.
@叶一-t5d

I received feedback from the manufacture, due to the poor goto accuracy, they suggest me to replace the carbon tripod with steel tripod and add balance weight onto the HAZ46.

Yes. Regardless of the ability of the motors and gearing to withstand the imbalance, what about the overall imbalance of the tripod and rig? Are the tripod feet locked down?

Also noticed the video is not using weights to balance the azimuth axis. At what weight of scope do you recommend using it to balance?
@cmahar3
@cmahar3 10 ай бұрын
I put just the bar with no weights on it for the slight load of my camera/ASIAIR/ZWO focuser/DSLR camera when in alt-az mode, and that's mostly to balance the tripod, not the mount itself.
@anonnomis

wait do I need to do any alignment at all? Just pointing is all there is to it? Is it a combo of having gps set the coordinates of your location that it knows how the sun will travel or does the sun travel the same way even without that piece of info? I assume the video glanced over the tracking must be set to solar mode. If you could explain the science happening behind the scenes that would be very helpful. In any case I bought one, can't wait to try it out.
@cmahar3
@cmahar3 10 ай бұрын
I believe you do have to power the scope on in its zero position for alt-az mode, which is in the manual. It shows the scope pointing straight up, scope on the right side of the mount when you're standing facing the mount and facing South (for those of us in Northern latitudes.) So the scope would be on the west side of the mount.

Thanks for showing the configuration for alt-az mode (zero degrees). I have the HAE29 and had no idea that was required. Perhaps I should have RTFM. I can confirm the HAE29 handles a long nose-heavy Skywatcher 150 f8 refractor (old blue model) just fine. 9kg / 20lbs including some stuff focuser end. It slews my William Optics 80mm (weighs peanuts) with the same ease as the SW150. Impressive tech. Put the scopes centre of gravity onto the mount and it doesn't care if it's 1 foot or 4.5 feet. Confident it could handle my C9.25 just fine. I'm into solar Ha now but can't afford a front energy filter for a C9 (£3k). Will try a more affordable "white light" filter with it during this new solar cycle.
@Wolfie6020

It definitely handles the weight nicely but I think personally I would still use a counterweight to keep the Centre of Gravity centred. Great mount.

How is the tracking and guiding performance with such a load? I have an RC6 + cooled camera + guide scope and guide camera for about ~8.5 kg of load, is this still ok for HEM15 without counterweight and bar?

The CW is likely needed for the 8.5KG payload. You could try with out, it may work.

@ubergarm
@ubergarm Жыл бұрын
Seems plausible, a 10" f/4 carbon fiber newt might weigh 28~30lbs with similar center of gravity lever arm distance as the pictured iOpton 10 RC. I'm thinking about this setup too for unguided short exposure Lucky DSO imaging. Not sure if the long 1000mm tube will become more of a wind sail than a light bucket though even with short exposures 😹

I have a Celestron Evo8, with guide scope and NUC, which comes in at around 11kg. What's the difference in accuracy between the GEM45 and CEM40 with this kind of OTA weight? The price point is roughly the same, so I don't know which is the better of the two.

Useless set up instructions. This guy just glossed over the counterweight section. He should have shown figuratively and demonstrated how he did the Torque = Weight * Distance at various settings and using examples of the scope weight. Also shown the same when two telescopes are mounted.
