I flew in there on a ferry flight from the UK via Reykjavik Iceland in fall of 1979. We were flying a DC-3 heading to western Canada when we developed an engine oil leak between Iceland and Greenland . On inspection after landing we found that the oil was running down the belly of the aircraft and dripping off the tail wheel. The weather then went bad so we were storm stayed for a few days. We stayed in the so called 'Arctic Hotel' next to the runway which is a type of bunk house. Sadly, we ended up having to abandon the aircraft as we were waiting for parts . We were very happy to see a Cessna 421 land when the weather cleared. So we hitched a ride with the aircraft which was being ferried to Germany by a corporate pilot. This was his first ferry flight. We were icing up so badly getting out of there that he gave command of the aircraft over to the more experienced ferry pilot. He then asked us to stay with him until we reached the UK. Which we did. I took Air Canada back to Nova Scotia.
