TotK imo is a much better game. If it somehow came first I don’t think there would be anyone arguing tears is better. The biggest problem with tests is that I had already explored the world as you mentioned. The dungeons and world design was so much better in ToTK but being in an explored world set it back a ton and the reused sky islands seemed unnecessary. Imo BtoW with caves would be so much more fun that felt very fun cause it was very much missing from BotW. The hands were also a much better enemy imo than guardians were and having more enemy variants was needed in BotW.

From the perspective of someones whos pretty much avoided ToTk content until i picked up the game recently, im currently about 60 hours in, and i have to say, I enjoyed Breath of the wild more. tears is a great game but the magic simply isnt there. It was certainly there in the beginning but now having played it for a bit i notice myseld rushing dungeons or just getting to the next quest. Whereas BoTW i almost unintentionally did a no fast travel run simply because i was having so much with exploration and seeing what was around the the next corner. Totk i simply dont care whats there lol. It almost feels like there is soooooo much to do and explore that you cant really stop to enjoy it or you're gunns be playing the game forever. And no game should feel like "damn at this rate im gunna be here forever"

You touch on nearly every gripe I have with this game. I spent 250h in it but there was a lot of fatigue where there was wonder in Breath. Sure I've explored this world twice already but I could do it again in Breath. Rather glance over stuff to get to where I need to be in Tears. Makes me a bit sad

I am playing throught the Breath of the Wild now first. And I kinda like it finaly. The only thing that pisses me so much and why I didnt enjoy it on the day of the release up until now is thats on the most garbage console I have ever purchased (twice because I bought OLED since I am dummy and I thought its better). I hate switch with every bone in my body. Its so uderpowered and crap. When you play docked the game looks like shit and if you play it handheld well I am not playing that way because I hate the small screens in general because I cant see shit. The joycons are the worst controllers I have ever played with (the design is cool and it feels good to held) because the sticks feels stiff and crap when aiming. Gyro aiming was necesary and great even. So I bought Pro Controller. Feels cheap as fuvk, buttons are soft so the feedback is just not there and when you are 30 centimeters from that bluetooth or possibly infrared connection or whatever they use because its not working properly the controller starts lagging and aiming is out of the window. God I hate that fuvkin weak ass console. After all of this I am still enjoying the game even if it looks like shit and runs even worse. And I am still excited to explore TotK when I get to it.

Agree to almost everything, except the shrines: they were a big drawback for me. Most of it felt like tutorials for the zonai parts instead of actually being challenging. Some of those where you lose your weapons were fine (some were too easy). Not to mention that 1/3 of all of the shrines were just Rauru's blessings.

A lot of critiques with botw about it being too empty I actually think worked within the context of that game, since the plot was so much about failure and guilt. The world is empty and overgrown because the bad guy essentially won. In Totk they tried to just fill all that space, that breath, with things, tasks, collectibles, post signs, korok travellers, wells and caves with all the same things. Just repetitive and monotonous. I’m sorry I don’t think it deserves all the accolades it’s getting I think it’s technically impressive but creatively I think we should raise our standards for a $70 game. I think they could have avoided all of this by letting the game take place 10,000 years in the past with rauru. Send both Zelda and link there and have them deal with the present threat of ganon in that moment in time. All the zonai tech could exist still, same shrines, and it allow them to more creatively transform the map while still reusing it in a sense. Idk that’s just what I think. It was too convoluted with all the time travel and secret stone bs. Let’s bring back the triforce and the goddesses pls and thank you

They should have given you way more restrictions in TotK. Then it would have been fun to play around with the new abilities. Instead I felt so overpowered that I never really started to play around with Ultra Hand. Everything was way easier and quicker without it. Ultra Hand feels like it should have been a game on it's own.

Honestly, I totally agree with your thoughts on the short life of the battery! But I feel like the zonai devices being simple in shape (being based on real-world objects) and having more predictable behaviour actually makes for more intuitive design. Love the video though!

Hot Take: The Divine Beasts were better than the dungeons from Tears of the Kingdom especially from a story and lore perspective. They had better puzzles, better mechanics, unique structures, interesting concepts, and amazing atmospheres. The only decent dungeon from Tears of the Kingdom was the Lightning Temple. The Wind, Fire, Water, and Spirit Temple were all bad. The bosses were better but the dungeons themselves were a step down from the Divine Beasts.

The dungeons and the entire overall main quest are better comparing to BOTW.If you did explore the game and tryed to improve link you saw how the 3 areas(sky deps and surface) interact to each other to do so, also on the sky island there are a lot of hidden maps with the locations of treasures with suits hidden on the depts encourajing the player to explore that area. The sides quests and side adventures are way more better and way more extense, but as you rushed the game is clear that you have not done any. In totk there are a lot of different enymies comparing to botw, the combat is way funier with the new fuse mechanics and even the zonai devices, you have a lot of options to face the enimies and that make the experience way funnier. The whole point of the towers is to take a overall look of the map and the sky islands. The fact that you wanted to rush the game does not make it linear at all. The whole point of the battery is for the player to not abuse of the zonai devices mechanics. If they were unlimited you would never want to ride a horse in the first place.Also the battery system make the player explore the depts if you want to use it for more time(and getting more batteries isn't that hard), and the fact that you didn't know that the zonai devices could be consumed to recover the baterry just proves you are dumb asf.Saying that the paraglider and the horse can replace all the zonai devices uses just proves that you haven't explore the game at all(especialy the sky islands). I played 400 hours of botw and did almost everything the game had to offer. I played over 250 of TOTK and I am still in my first save. TOTK is a better game in every aspect despite the performance wich i didn't talk about because I played the game on the pc. And also saying that breaking the player leg is the best way to encourage exploration is the dumbest thing I have heard in my entire life.Saying that the game does not have exploration because of the towers is the same that saying it doesnt have combat because of the zonai devices, that is just a terrible argument.All the sage spirits but tulin and yunobo suck, and needing to run to them to use their abilities is a terrible ideia. TOTK has its flaws, but saying that BOTW is bettter is either ignorance or nostalgia.

Something I found weird about it was that it seemed to act as a retcon of BotW as well. The 1000+ hours I spent in BotW feel invalidated by TotK, when most loose threads from BotW were either overwritten or reinstated, although this is just a personal opinion.

People say Totk is better than BOTW but i found Totk is overly complicated, and I miss sheika slate powers.

Totally agree with most of what you said, except that you can upgrade the batteries. A lot. You had two. When fully upgraded and while wearing the (really quite good) Zonaite armor, the batteries last 16x as long as the ones you have. That makes a huge difference. But with that much battery, the game does still suffer from the zonai devices you build being way too powerful as you described.

I mean the ability to skip things by “cheating” in a dungeon doesn’t make it “inarguably the worst dungeon” You can use glitches to skip all the dungeons in Ocarina of Time, does that make them inherently bad? No It’s your own fault if you ruin dungeons for yourself, obviously it’s easier to do so in TotK than OOT, but blame that on the game, not the dungeon itself It’s not one of the top 10 Zelda dungeons, but it’s pretty good (Fire Temple) The ability to cheese skip something doesn’t ruin the quality of how it’s meant to be experienced, even if it’s easy to cheese Like I said, you can pretty easily glitch to cheese many many parts of Ocarina, does that make all of the content you chose to skip inherently bad? As one of the few people who actually played ToTK and beat ToTK before I ever played BOTW and I can't disagree more about, everything you said 😂 But I think some of that is a "first" bias. I'm not even sure I'm going to finish BoTW it was so disappointing by comparison.

The worst part of ToTK is that it seems to have blurred our perception and the legacy of BoTW itself .... And don't read anywhere anymore how BoTW is "the best game ever" and so on... It seems, people got (amount others because of the flaws of TotK) more aware of the flaws of BoTW.

I’m one of the few mfs who think botw is a mediocre game, and after seeing enough reviews, I see totk really is just botw 2.0 but not in a good way. The exploration and rewards were not good in botw. As long as you reward players with paper weapons and make rewards predictable, your exploration game is already ruined. I don’t feel stronger finding a paper weapon after 7 min of trying to get it. I feel like I wasted my time. Botw felt like a waste of time and boring to me after the great plateau, and I was hoping totk was gonna be diff but I see that they didn’t change much. No. Tears of the Kingdom is better. The menu systems and the implementation of the cooking system and game mechanics were improved. BotW great game but it's not better than TotK.

The hovering segway absolutely destroys any sense of adventure when you can just fly there lol... and people cant argue just ignore it because it is dominant srategy. The depths are a chore and boring. the sky islands are a copy and paste of the main sky island and have almost nothing to offer except the diving set which is decent. I think the main magical aspect of botw was it was unique and new while totk doesn't really add much besides banjo kazooie nuts and bolts nonsense that if anything, takes away from the core aspect of the first game. Botws tutorial was perfect. Totks was a long boring drag. Enemy variety was especially disappointing.

As it sits for me, TOTK is the greatest game of all time. BOTW is a close second.
