Look I get it (and I agree).. but why are you than bad at this job? Why is camera so close, why not use key/fill/rim lights correctly.. background lights as wel.. why not learn editing, show some b-rolls, some images poping up to keep user retention.. I am gonna be honest with you, you are currently bad at this.. (p.s didn't follow script striucture closely,but where are hook/foreshadowing/transiton/story/reward structure.. why arn't you using "but so" writing method? Your message is correct, but everything around your message is not good. Remmember, algo does not care who you are, al it wants is user retention.. so your low retetion and low views are mostly on you. Good luck.

Hey, thanks! But not every video needs to be so formulaic, or hit every checklist for what a 'perfect' video should look like. I'd appreciate more specific feedback that doesn't sound like it's parroted from a checklist. I'll keep improving, but there are also people making $100k+ a month with nothing but PowerPoint slides and a $50 webcam, so you're making an awful lot of assumptions. Some of us measure business success in terms of dollars and not views 🙂

@@JamesMcAllister Well, I tried to help you, push you into right direction to actually be professional. I cannot help people who are lying to themself. P.s, in this game, ATTENTION is more valuable than money. (And let's be honest here, without attention, no one will even see your website plug.). Another p.s, that banner at the endis killing the retention of your viewers, direct them to aother video or just end it before that. If you are looking for long term, never waste viewer's time.
@JamesMcAllister
@JamesMcAllister Ай бұрын
Respectfully, you sound like somebody who has watched a lot of guru videos on how to start a KZbin channel but never actually got anywhere with one. I think we both agree that your advice on increasing production value is generally good, but to act like it's a requirement is silly, and disproven. You don't even know my retention or how this video actually performed outside the view count. I do. 'Attention is more valuable than money' is one of the stupidest things I've ever heard and makes it hard to take the rest of your advice seriously, even though a couple pieces of it were good. In a niche like this one, if you can't make good money off of 500 views / video then you're doing something wrong. I'd rather have a tiny audience and a fat bank account, then millions of views and be broke. Overproduction helps with attracting kids with no attention spans (or money) that will click from video to video, but the message / content actually pushes people to take action. But if views are more important to you than money, well, you do you 🤣

I kinda disagree with your comment oijgg3p. I do agree there is room for improvement for James. But I dont think its bad like you saying it is. Everyone has there own style and with time it will improve. I do think maybe James could watch his video and study them to see what he can do to improve them and look at his competitors and study them and what he can take from them, i believe that will give the videos a bigger improvement. Also adding too many fx and retention editing fx is getting tiring (at least for me) and takes away from the message in my opinion. I do think though the thumbnails could be much better. but the video itself is decent enough.
@JamesMcAllister
@JamesMcAllister Ай бұрын
@@Zortec Appreciate that a lot Zortec, thank you. My background is in blogging and although the marketing fundamentals are mostly the same regardless of platform, the technical skills definitely are not. I am aware that I'm not a good video editor and my thumbnails are DEFINITELY not up to par. But like you said, it's something I'll get better with over time. KZbin is not my main business and if the first year's worth of videos aren't the best, I'm okay with that. At least, if I can make the messaging / content alright. At some point in the future when I've earned people's trust, there will be more content to binge, even if they weren't presented the best that they could be. About retention editing, you bring up a good point. The other thing is the tradeoff between time and reward. I'd rather do 2 videos a week with lighter editing, than 1 video a week with really heavy editing. There are surely pros and cons to each strategy, but I will get better with the whole package - script writing, editing, thumbnails, titles etc. with more practice, doing 2 videos a week instead of 1. That's my 2 cents, anyway!

Thank you! I prererecorded my PPT audio, and noticed some mistake, so some bits I have to re-record, then after cutting, some bits have higher volume, and some bits have lower volume. this 'normalise' function is amazing! Thank you! Can I ask another question not related to these two functions that you showed? After I export audacity audio into wav and inserted in my ppt, I record the screen, and then inside mp4 file, I noticed the screen is somehow slower than my voice! although during recording I have made sure that the screen goes to where/what I am talking about. Really annoying! any solution to that? And I found my audacity somehow stopped working, can't export wav file anymore, if i click on it, it's just a 1kb empty file.. tried many times and reinstalled.. still not working, but I guess this is a software bug, nothing really to resolve it from customer end.

@JamesMcAllister
@JamesMcAllister Жыл бұрын
That was how I went about it before, yeah. Though usually, I'm a bit more focused while still being relatively broad. For example, I have a parenting site that started out focusing on just babies aged 0-2, but now covers pregnancy and toddler ages as well. And, a site aimed towards musicians that covers several different instruments, even though each one could certainly be its own website. That being said, the site you looked at is currently getting hammered hard by the Google reviews update, so it might not be the best example of what to do hahaha...

That makes sense, I have that concern as well. As of right now most people aren't going to bother turning to ChatGPT first, but who knows what will happen when it's integrated directly into Google search. Or, if they already have the answer generated when the search is made. Sadly, we can't fully predict how people will use it once it's released to the masses, but it will certainly be interesting to witness!
