Beautiful photos, perfectly matching your description of the lens!

Fuji needs to make a SET OF these lenses with the curvature character built in…. Someone tell them please to wake up and see why this lens is so legendary now.

absolutely love your focus on how the images actually look and the artistic qualities of the lens. Too many people just word vomit spec sheets and show sharpness charts and i couldn't care less about specs or charts.

What a well done review! When one looks at a lens diagram, the design is very, very similar to the 1.5/50 Zeiss C Sonnar in M mount and the rendering is similar, only with some very appealing benefits added. I love its character.

newbie comment, what is the difference between this and the f2? i'm aware that the f2 has the R WR is weathersealed, but apart from that, doesn't both of these lenses able to shoot in f2? sorry, english isnt my first language
@GilmerCreativeАй бұрын
Both can shoot at f2. The 1.4 can also shoot faster at 1.4. They are very different lenses with the same focal length. The f2 focuses faster and is generally sharper and weather sealed. It has a much more modern rendering where the 1.4 renders more vintage with more character.

We need more of your lens + camera takes! Thanks for the incredible summary. Curious: Where those pictures JPGS (fuji recipes) or edited in Lightroom/C1 ?

EXCELLENT ❤ I think you’ve nailed and explained exactly the magic of XF 35mm 1.4 spot-on which I feel is simply not there on the new XF 33mm 1.4! I have both lenses but something always keeps drawing me back to 35mm 1.4😇

To echo what others have said: This is the best lens review video I've ever seen, and I finally understand what people are talking about with this lens. So now I have to go get one! Thanks for putting this together, hope to see you making more content like this.

I've been watching reviews for this lens for several years, since getting the 35 f2 and wondering if i made the right choice, and your review is the most useful to me! Much appreciated.
@crsantin2 ай бұрын
The 35 f2 is a fine lens as well. It’s weather sealed and tiny. Perhaps lacking the character of the 1.4 but it’s a lens worth owning. I’ll be picking up the 35 1.4 to compliment my f2.

You put into words some of what I love about the 23mm from the same generation. I just picked up the 35mm, partly thanks to your video. Thanks for the great info and I'm a subscriber!

I would love it if they release a manual only version of this lens, make it lighter and cheaper just to make it a tad more accessible.

Great review. People talk about the magical character of this lens but none have explained what it actually is. Well done for clearly showing why its faults are actually its strongest points. I'm subscribing to your channel. Looking forward to more from you.

The old 16mm 1.4 and 35mm 1.4 definitely have that character look that brought us all over to Fujifilm, but they dont keep up as well as the WR counterparts when it comes to the auto-focus the market is evolving towards.

Great review and I’d love you to do the same with the xf18mm f2 and xf60mm f2.4 both quirky, unloved, “imperfect” lenses but released at a similar time to the xf35mm f1.4

I'm here a year late. I'm sure KZbin wanted me to see your review after I saw GxAce say great things about the lens. I've already bought it now (like a few hours ago). But what made me push "Subscribe" was when you said you preferred things with character and quirks. New subscriber because that sums me up, too.

I liked it a lot. I've got the lens and it is a favorite. You take very warm images, not in color temperature, but in human emotion. Good work, Gilmer.
