It s always good to listen to the studio version first just to get a feel for the arrangement of the song. It also helps because not all live versions are created equal.

As the person who first introduced you to Cold Chisel over a year ago when i messaged Alex on IG, I’m so happy to see how far you’ve come on your Chisel journey and hope it continues, still so much to explore!! ❤❤ There’s a tribute I made to this song on my channel which shows just how much this song has infiltrated the Aussie culture.

❤ great song.. I was at Australian Keith urban concert and he started singing this and Jimmy Barnes came out and started singing this.. even though this was considered a “country music” concert the whole crowd got into singing this.. there’s a video clip on YT of keith and jimmy singing it.. it’s nice as Jimmy, Nicole Kidman and Keith urban are good friends

IF your looking for the North East South West of the range of sounds of Cold Chisel i would pick - Star Hotel , When the war is over, One long day, Saturday night. I could easily pick 7 or 8 equally brilliant others as the greatness of this band is they never create the same song twice, each song has a distinct feel and flavor.

You mentioned the backing vocals at the end… that wasn’t the band, nor professional singers.. it was whoever was there at the time.. the aim was to recreate the sound of the audience singing along, in an attempt to make the song feel more anthemic.. and they most certainly succeeded…

Well, if you want to do a studio version, I think you need to check out 'Saturday Night' at some stage because it has nightlife sounds in it. 😊

Jimmy clearly loves Mossy to bits -- still -- and he is very demonstrably affectionate towards him when they are playing together. He often plants one on him on stage. So yeah, their friendship seems to be going strong 50 years after they met. 😁

For me, their best live performances are when Red Suit guy starts on guitar then swaps it for his saxaphone.....those gigs ROCK. Also when INXS and Michael Hutchence team up with Jimmy Barnes......Jimmy and Michael together is almost as good as Jimmy and Farnham together, or Jimmy and Tina Turner together. lol

I believe that was the 3rd encore after a 3 hour set. The Last Stand tour was Chisel's first long goodbye, the entire concert was like that from start to finish.

It was a complicated relationship at times with 5 incredibly creative musicians. I think it was best described by Ian Moss when they reformed and after playing their first gig back - 'After one song we wondered why we ever broke up, by the end of the gig we wondered why we ever got back together'.

All members of Cold Chisel knew the band was bigger than the individuals. They respected each other and it shows. Like any band there were tensions but this clip is a great illustration: notice how when Jimmy has finished it's Ian who leads the band and they end on his cues, and that's a common theme in their performances.

We have heaps of Aussie artists here. If you want hip hop Aussie style there Hilltop Hoods leave me lonely, it’s funny best with official video as it has the cartoon and lyrics. Another one of their hits is Cosby Sweater, Fifty in Five which is a song that’s 50 years in 5 mins, 1955, I love it ft Sia. Heaps of more. We have Vanessa Amorosi, Guy Sebastian, so many talented musicians here I can’t think off the top of my head.

No nasty break up. They are still a tight nit group and trying to do a 50 yr tour but Jimmy Barnes has had to delay as he has had surgery. Jimmy Barnes is now in his late 60’s. I was 5 yrs old when this concert was on. I’m 46 now 😂😂😂😂

You should check out the live concert of Cold Chisel at Rockpalast in Germany in 1982 with the boys doing "Goodbye (Astrid Goodbye)" - kzbin.info/www/bejne/bYSueqmna85sbMk. It's one of their best head-banging tracks, with Jimmy again finishing the set with a bottle in his hand as he walks off the stage.

Their friendships lasted but there were rifts back in those days, I think mostly between Jimmy and Steve, the drummer. I'm not saying that lead to the breakup, but they didn't always see eye to eye. Hard touring, hard rocking, plenty of alcohol, some swinging arms is not surprising. Disagreements, yes. Friendship destroying, no.
@davidburnett9319 күн бұрын
G'day mate, Jimmy explained in a interview how he can do that all night without damaging his voice and it centred around him having a camera put down his throat. I can't remember the details but there was something unique about his vocal chords. I truly hope you can successfully search for that interview because I believe you will find it fascinating. I'm sorry I'm not more help in that regard. And yes, they are all still friends and are going to be doing gigs celebrating 50 years. Loved the reaction, take care
@Dr_KAP19 күн бұрын
Nothing unique per se about his cords, but he has mastered the art of using his false vocal folds . All singers use their false cords and while Jimmy’s cords are physically no different, some singers especially gospel and heavy metal singers - and Jimmy- have perfected the art. This not only helps to protect your primary cords, it also helps produce some great sound!

@@Dr_KAPapparently he uses his second set of vocal chords and according to doc will never lose his voice. He has a very raw strong voice that only a band like Chisel could accommodate … Jimmy laughs when talking about how he was devastated being evicted from the school gospel choir cause he was too loud. 😆😆. Pissed as a nute = bottles of vodka every performance… that’s Jimmy😍 Yes they still and will always remain friends and currently on tour for their 50th Anniversary of rocking Aussie Pubs. I’m there already with bells on!!! Can’t wait.. Unfortunately we lost Steve ( drummer) quite a few years ago but all other band members will be there. There will never be a better a better version of this song.. COLD CHISEL ARE THE WILD THING!!!
@Dr_KAP4 күн бұрын
@@kazmungovan117 everyone uses their false cords when they sing, even you and I use them otherwise we would choke. However your false cords don’t make any sound, it’s more about pushing air up through the main cords and protecting them from strain. Jimmy does use his false cords well (cords not chords 😉), it’s a technique mastered by many metal and gospel singers but yes only the most amateur beginner singer would sing without them. P.s. doctor here too ❤️ please check out my Steve P tributes which have been endorsed by his family as well as Jimmy himself!

Well hello old friend !! Both Anthony and Tina have Italian blood and can speak fluent Italian, which makes this even more beautiful as I think it helps you to feel the lyrics better when you understand them. Anthony has sung this song on his own at so many special events it’s almost his signature song ❤ also- I do see your point. Anthony was straight out of Australian idol with very little to no formal training here- he was fresh to stardom. Tina has been training and singing since she was a little girl and is a true professional so getting that balance right is definitely something Anthony got better with over time.

We as Aussies and English speakers we say (ah-ree-nah) but if you get technical as they are both Italian descendants like myself he saying it correctly. 😊 in Italian you say it as you see it and you roll the R’s. Arena😊
