Not surprisingly there were a total of three world records at this meeting as East Germany wanted revenge in the upcoming World Cup after having their European Cup dominance broken by the Soviets.

Thank god we have learnt since 1938 and ruZZians are banned from international athletics. these championships were 1 years before Germany invaded Poland - little do these people know the mass murder and devastation that was about to hit Europe. Ukraine also lost more civilians than any other nation in WWII so we should give thought to the war in Ukraine. ..... just a note....sort of obvious many of the Eastern European athletes would not be allowed to compete nowadays because they obvious have too many male hormones...

Thank you for this!! This is the only footage I have found of the Swedish sprinter Owe Jonsson winning the 200 m. Too bad this part is filmed off a tv screen, and not part of the official footage. Still better than nothing though.

Precious footage. Thanks a lot. The strange thing is that footage of athletics in 70s is really rare and hard to find. Quite disappointing. Also footage of European indoor champs of 70s and 80s is also very limited. Unfortunately.
