Even though Silent Hill: Shattered Memories for the Wii has been completely forgotten, it always stuck out to me as a game that mastered liminal spaces. Why? Compared to the previous SH games, its focus was more on the story and it lacked the typical combat sequences. It was a weird spin-off, but I enjoyed the creepy yet calm atmosphere throughout the game. It was the only reason I played it a few times over. You knew when to expect the chase-scenes, so you could explore the environment without the hassle of being jumped by a monster. You have to travel through abandoned schools, streets, malls, and stores with nothing but your footsteps and memories to keep you company. I'm not sure why I thought about SH:SM while watching this, considering I haven't played it in well over 12+ years.
