Thank you for sharing your journey. I have not heard from another person having a journey similar to mine. Being diagnosed with juvenile diabetes that’s what it was called back in 1973, and I was T1D another name Type1 all alone and I was admitted to an ER major hospital. So sick I had to be admitted at age of 18. It was a scary situation for me because I never heard of diabetes. And then to find out that their no cure. This was in I received my first insulin pump back in I have stories of my journey over the years to share one day. And thanks to the technology over the years I must say it's becoming more manageable. Education is a must-have living with T1D that has also improved. My journey of almost 50 years now is truly a blessing. I’ll leave you and your readers with this. I always was told back in 1973 that a cure for diabetes is right around the corner and I have not found that corner yet!

I'm so glad that Tara explains to the general public about the issues that affect black women with diabetes specifically but also to inform the public that all women with diabetes are equal but their issues may be different and should be acknowledged for what it is.

Thank you for this! I am a black woman and I was missed diagnosed for over 5 years!! I was sick given T2 meds that wasn't working until a new doctor at the age of 41 said "I wanna run test " and I was T1. I am now so better. Many people don't believe me for the longest my husband had trouble understanding it and he heard the diagnosis himself!!! So I now say to people. Kids with T1 grow up to be adults 5😂

What a wonderful and powerful video. You are so lucky to have a support system like your mom. You are such a wonderful example of what it's like to live with diabetes, and how to handle difficult situations. You empower everyone who you reach with your message. I feel so lucky to know you!

Thanks for sharing you story. I am a black woman who was diagnosed with T1D at age 42 and while I was fortunate to be diagnosed correctly by my primary care doctor. But like you there have been many moments of discrimination within the healthcare world. Thanks for reminding me that I’m not alone.

Thanks for sharing your story. I have encountered similar moments especially in my family where an aunt manages her diabetes very differently from me. Sometimes I choke down the frustration, other times I say “I’ve got this” and keep it moving.

Mos of my life I have been trying to figure out my body scheme. I realized that there is no pattern for me to fit in. No weight or tape measurement can tell me the same as I see in the mirror. Lately,in the early menopause stage I went up to 100kg for the fourth time in my life. Regulating my sugar levels depend on diet and exercise and affection from my husband and my children. In this chase for the perfect body, after vomiting for countless years my stomach just died, suffered a necrosis , and a general infection of all my tissues and went three years ago to the icu for 20 days. Of course I lost most of my stomach. In the last four years I have been operated on 5 times to improve my eating capacity. Now I am almost back to binge eating, and gai weight again.

I live in Argentina and, fortunately, late vut just on time I married an English husband. If I have something to say about the British is that they do not take body size in such a prejudicial way as my folks do ( argentinians in general and my family in particular). Then, at 34 and 37 I delivered two boys who are already attending university.

I am 54 years old and have had an eating disorder for as long as I can remember. Whwn I was 14 I was diagnosed with anorexia and went down from 62 kg to 26. My binged eating and laxatives and overexercising plus my insomnia did all the rest..
