Pete, what a wonderful job performing Bassai Dai. I learned it long ago and was one of my favorites, along with Kanku Dai, and what a marvelous venue to perform kata. I hope they're able to restore the castle completely.

Most Versions of Saifa do the first step in 45° angle. In Your Style the direction of your face still carries that. So gaining the outside is one main principle of Saifa. And you don't pull him in. You more pull yourself next to him. Then you try to handle his arm/wrist - to lock, to control ... an then strike. If he turns again facing you ... the the next segment. Not implying you should go straight from beginning to end thru a kata. But with Saifa, you could. In a sense of combinations it alternates from side to front/back to side to front... of your opposition.

The last part is wrong. You don't turn your back when doing gyaku-zuki. I checked with Kagawa-Sensei. Some people confuse with a "snap of shoulder", which is allowing the shoulder to move a bit forward with the Tsuki. But the back remains straight.

Kumite traininig is completely different from. Basic training
@sassuki
@sassuki 3 жыл бұрын
@@vassilisconstantinides3064 if it is different, then why did you train in "basic" training for so long? why did you waste your time? Modern WKF Kumité is corrupted, not "different", emphasizing speed and (fake) reach over power and effectiveness, just to get more points. Kagawa is the national trainer for Japan btw. He knows what he's talking about.

Coming from a Goju Practitioner watch it is a pretty good version. The main thing i can see wrong is when your in zenkutsu dachi and transitioning forward you have the habit of lifting the front heel up to move.

The beginning looks like the Jion yoi, in Shotokan style, Bassai Dai Yoi is closed fists held down instead of up as in Jion. Very nice rendering. Congratulations.

you certainly are sharp, but was that a sumo stance!!!!!!!! its a shotokan kata...also you seem to rush some of the moves which is a shame as it detracts from your sharpness and it may be the camera but your back leg on the kokutso dacha looks like the knee is in/forward instead of back (back leaning stance).

your hips are off on the punches and should be on, and you seem to be going up and down in height but it may be the camera placement, but the hips definitely.

Nice, it is a shame you are so far from the camera. I think the video focusses more on the nice scenery than your kata. The performance looks pretty good though :)

Amazing kata once again. Just three points that I have been picked up on recently, in my kata. So I apologize if things are different in your region. At 1.01, try to pull your arms in from your elbows opposed to your hand. Also, although they look very strong, try to lock out your side kicks for a split second longer. Finally, the final move. I have recently been corrected on and told to bring my hand under the striking arm to perform the mawashi-uke. Hope this helps. :)

What an incredible story, big props to Mark, hope he keeps up his inspirational work, it really makes me realise ho lucky I am to be how I am, yet also frustrates me that people like myself (with nothing holding them back) do not give it as much effort as people like Mark.

Yes Mark is entirely blind. I work with Mark on a daily basis and know that if suggested it would be unfair to spar for his belt because hes blind, he would take that as you chickenning out of sparing him! Mark has no fear and does not feel disadvantaged at all, despite been blind he has a suprisingly strong sense of perception and he can work his opponents very well before executing strikes of near clinical accuracy. Now a regular instructor with GKR and working hard to achieve his next dan.

I'm guessing it can't have been that bad! To say there were only 12 competitors in the final (i think?) you must have done decently at least:) What kata did you do? I got 3rd place on my ring with 8.3 average, but peter durrant and a guy whose surname is gabbitas were the two that went through for kata. To say it was my first world cup (and in the opens, no less!) it was quite an experience for me!
