Very informative video, most impressive for me is, how they lowered the noise on these diesel engines.

Why couldn't they just use a small Cummins diesel instead of this?
@TheRVConnection
@TheRVConnection 4 ай бұрын
That's kind of a complicated answer. Consider that GM has no contract or relationship with Cummins, as Ram does. Even with the Ram application, the 5.9 they originally started using was an existing engine (school busses, delivery trucks, etc) which was gradually modified to meet Chrysler's needs but is still used in different applications (i.e. motorhomes). It did not start as a clean sheet of paper. Next, consider that there are a TON of design parameters for a modern diesel, especially with regard to emissions controls, and to a lesser extent, noise vibration and harshness (NVH). Most available diesel engines are not emissions certified, and owing to their industrial nature, do not have to comply with any NVH parameters. So, GM created its own engine specifically for this application, and since they already own the Duramax name, called it that even though it has no relationship with the Duramax V8 and was not designed by the same engineers. Hope that answers your question!

15 to 1 seems to me to be an insufficient compression ratio for a diesel?

Simple to change oil pump belt HA! 3,000.00 parts and labor to change belt plus reviews say this engine burns oil??

Why isn't the pump chain driven in oil like everything else on the back of the engine I guess that would have been to easy and not had to be touched

My customer owned a 2020 GMC sierra, 3.0 Duramax, and recently traded it in @ 75K miles because the check engine light came on. Code was P3196. ( turbo cooling pump failure ) est. at the dealer was 5-6K, but 2-3 month wait. He now owns a 2023 Tahoe w/ 6.2L

I wish salesmen would stop exaggerating the towing capabilities of a 1/2 ton pickup truck. Very few 1/2 ton trucks can tow that trailer without exceeding the GVWR of the truck.

Over $3000 to replace oil pump belt!!! What are youi guys thinking about bel;t driven oil pump??? Plus the engine is too small for the application ,it should be up around 5 liters. You got it half right .as usual for GM.

I had to buy the 6.2L in the Yukon, because the 3.0L LM2 diesel motor offered in the 2023 Yukon will be discontinued. The new LZ0 diesel, offered already in the pickup trucks should ha e been in the Yukon for 2023 Shameful.

How do you design a engine with a belt that drives the oil pump? While everything else is chain driven? Kicker the belt is on the back of the engine” simple just pop the transfer case and transmission to replace ? Who was saying the cab has to be pulled ?

Stay away from GMC and all other related vehicles/brands..I bought a brand new 2023 GMC YUKON DENALI with the 3.0 Duramax back in November and with only 750 miles on it took a dump. Got a check engine light. I guess its the Coolant Control Vale…It’s been at the dealership for the past 30 days and still haven’t gotten it back!!!! Will be contacting a lawyer here soon!
