One of the best in terms of polished technical skills, but a lot of other drummers sound more 'musical' to my ears. I think Jojo is more musical and entertaining; but it's 'apples and oranges' to compare: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fJWZkIGIYtONqa8

Got your last e-mail, but for some reason, when I try to reply to it, it’s telling me that it is an invalid e-mail address. I’m guessing it has something to do with me being in Canada at the moment on vacation, but I’m not really sure. Anyway, no worries. Some people have skills that are just in demand, and the current world situation with Covid is not helping. Here’s hoping your schedule becomes more ‘normal’ for you, and if you get this, you can verify by shooting me a short message. This is the only way I could think to try to get you a message. Cheers!

Yep, got your message. I guess try email again when you're back in the US?... Have a good vacation!

I'm still kid of boggled by that 'kung fu' technique you figured out for drumming- it's pretty amazing, as I've never seen anybody else use that particular method. Can't wait to see the stuff we did on YT.

ha, just got around to listening to this one, so this is the old studio setup.. great jam!

This is a nice tune with a good chord progression. Sounding like you all got away from the jazz format for this one. Great sound!

Nice jam session! Dirk's still got it, I see.. wonder what kind of guitar that is he's playing. The sound on this is great- what setup did you use? Something mobile, I'm guessing.
@HiFiTubeGuy5 жыл бұрын
Yeah; don't know what his guitar is. Glad you like the sound; thanks! I use a pair of Canon HF-M500 cameras, with a Canon DM-100 stereo mic on each one, and I use the sound track from whichever one sounds best. I export the sound track to a WAV file, and run it through my mastering software (Wavelab Elements 8). In Wavelab, I use EQ (just a few dB of both low-end shelf boost and high-end shelf boost), and just a slight touch of each; multiband compression, stereo enhancement, and reverb; just enough of each to be audible, and peak limiting for the 'top' 3 or 4 dB worth of peaks, and that's it. Each effect is minimal, but combined together, the result sounds substantially better than the raw audio from the camera. I take the resulting track from Wavelab, put it into VideoPad Video Editor, along with the video from both cameras, and sync everything together (by 'lining up' the sound tracks from both cameras with the mastered track from Wavelab). I render the final video with sound tracks from both cameras muted, so only the mastered audio from Wavelab is heard.

HiFiTubeGuy I notice something on Dirk's guitar, not sure what the device is because he's obviously got it plugged into an amp. I can see the cable. It looks like it might be some kind of midi pickup, like the GK-3 pickup on my Roland Guitar Synth. Yeah, I know you don't like the synth stuff so much, LoL. But it can be useful in some circumstances.

Complete novice here. What does the unit on top of the radio do? Preamp to boost signal from antenna?
@HiFiTubeGuy5 жыл бұрын
It's a combination of a narrow-band IF filter (to reduce interference from signals on adjacent frequencies), and an automatic gain control (AGC) with adjustable attack and decay (to reduce gain on strong signals, and keep them at approximately the same volume as the weaker signals).
@ces43995 жыл бұрын
@@HiFiTubeGuy I would like to copy that circuit (at least the AGC part). Would you be willing to share this circuit? Thank you.

I just posted what little info I still have about it on my Google+ page. I built it about 15 years ago, and sold it a couple years ago, so that's about all the info I can give you; most anything else I knew about it is long forgotten by now... Btw; I've never been a ham operator; I just used to be an SWL, but not for many years now... Hope that helps :)

Wow! I recognize a few of these guys in here. Ned Rood, of course, Dirk, the guy playing the Chapman stick, and I once jammed with the guy with the glasses and the long-sleeved shirt back in 97 when I went with Dave. That was a blues style jam, as well. Sounding really good here.
@SonicBodhi18 жыл бұрын
Wow, this is a departure from what I'm used to hearing from Dirk! But then it's been a long time since I attended one of his basement jams. You guys were sounding pretty good there! Dirk's getting downright blues-y in this one.

I can see you made good use of your Thanksgiving vacation! Well done! Say, do you still listen to Brand X? I do, and I have EVERY album they made. I can say you are the one that turned me on to them, and this jam reminds me just a bit of their style.
