I'll have to sit down and organize my understanding here. These drugs have so many names it's hard to know which is which. I live in the Dominican Republic and here I've been using Fenbendazole but just bought a new one with Albendazol and Levamisol. For all I know they are all the same thing. Any comments on drenching with a copper sulfate solution?

The guy I bought my sheep from which were less than 10lbs told me to give 2.5 cc of valbazine for a period of 3 days. I lost every lamb i treated in about 5 days. I had on ram showing signs of parasites and he told me treat all of them this way. I'm very disappointed I didn't watch this first
@johnnyjohnson5365 ай бұрын
Also, they showed about 3-4 out of 5 signs of overdose. For new beginners, don't panic when you find a sick lamb and only treat those who have signs of sickness.

Won't the vaccine cause the presence of antibodies at testing? This is what I've been told by large scale sheep/goat farmers. They have also said that if records show the animal was vaccinated, its safe to say the positive on a CL test is a result of the vaccination. What is your opinion?
@erinhale9177 ай бұрын
We have a month old hair lamb. We live in Virginia. We’re not sure if it’s CL or not. The access is located on jaw.

Thanks for the informative video. Question for you: I am raising a bottle lamb for the summer, butchering at 6 months. The lamb is healthy and has no worms at about 2 months of age. Should I give dewormer at some point over the next 4 months as a preventative measure? Or just wait to see if the lamb develops worms at all?
@Accumulator1 Жыл бұрын
10k larva each? Do goats normally ingest that many? How could you possibly get worm count to zero without secondary deworming to rid the maturing larva. They be there to contaminate your next test on pasture. Selection of animals that develop a resistant will not happen. How can the animal develop antibodies against these parasites? If so, then a vaccine should have been developed years ago.
@Accumulator1 Жыл бұрын
Why wait 10 days for the retest? Dewormers work fast. Do surviving worms ever stop laying? Existing larva matures in 5 to 7 days? So a follow-up no matter. These dewormers are no longer any good. They all fail to prevent adaptation. Giving a dewormer from each of the 3 classes at same time is onky thing left. Past time to come out with new deworming drugs.

Great information. Thank you from SC. Where can I find the LGD fact sheet?
Hello I just subscribed , a couple of months ago I bought 4 goats 2 nubians does from one owner , 1 Saanen doe from another owner and 1 Nubian buck from another owner . The Saanen has started to develop a lump on the rear flank as you pointed out on the sheep . She is currently pregnant and due in late March and I was wondering if her milk would be safe to drink and would it make sense just to let all the goats run together since they have been running together for a couple of months now anyways ? All of the goats I bought are registered with ADGA and I paid a pretty penny for them and I dont want to cull any of them . My goats are not showing they are to provide milk on a small homestead . Any information will greatly be appreciated thank you in advance .
@katrinaanon1038 Жыл бұрын
_Check_with_your_vet_first. However, from what I heard and read the milk is OK as long as you pasteurize. But you must pasteurize as CL is zoological, meaning the infection from the pus could (not will infect you. Testing is still a good idea and there are procedures to follow when kidding to prevent the spread. Also realize if you vaccinate the tests will show your animals positive for CL. Apparently, treatment regiments are changing. That is why it is imperative to review current knowledge with your vet. For one, I thought the vaccine was designed for goats and that would be an off-label use. Some people will isolate the goat away from the other goats when it is showing signs of CL. They put an expendable goat in the pen with the goat that has CL. Also remember your Saanen might not even have CL. But it is probably worth bring her to a vet to evaluate,

Nice job explaining how to see the lambs on the screen. We will be scanning in a couple of days and hope we do as well. We are scanning later than we typically do so. This group will just be a yes or no because lambs are likely too big. Will be scanning another group next month and will identify number of lambs. Thanks for sharing

Currently have a sick sheep. Noticed blood on nose 2-3 days ago, thought he got in a fight. Next day or 2 noticed trouble breathing. Separated from goat heard last night treated with Ivermectin and started PCN. It’s been 14 hours since first dosage, when should I start seeing some improvement? He is eating great still but def can not breath out of his nose on left side. I didn’t see anything upon looking quickly… is there something I can do to help him sneeze these out or whatever??? I rescued him back early April he was a bottle baby and is extremely sweet and playful and I don’t want to lose him….

New to owning sheep. What is meant by the "traditional" side of the market? Thanks
@SheepandGoatsatTexasAgriLife Жыл бұрын
Traditional refers to marketing channels that resemble how most Americans purchase animals proteins. Large plants that process, fabricate, and distribute products across the country to retail and food service outlets. Nontraditional resembles smaller and more localized marketing channels. Typically these go to minority communities or direct to consumer from farmer.

Hello, I noticed that fig 1 shows mkt price $/cwt and fig 2 shows price $/lb ... could the numbers in fig 1 be off ...$/100 lbs = $/cwt right?
@twc90003 ай бұрын
Yes, $/cst = $/100lbs. His prices seem about right to me. I paid between $35-$45 each for kids that weighed about 15 lbs at a sale barn. That's about $2.33 to $3 per pound. I've haven't sold any yet, so I don't know what the sale price will be.
