At least Wales' rainforest are acknowledged. There are countless patches of rainforest all across Northern England that are just being ignored, and not even acknowledged on the Woodland Trust's own website (yet easy to find on Guy Shrubsole's interactive rainforest map). Such patches can be nurtured and will expand greatly with little intervention as long as they're protected. But the Woodland Trust doesn't even seem to know they're there.

Hello will the live cam feeds be coming back to the Chanel? Is it a technical issue with the cams?
@woodlandtrust8 күн бұрын
Hi, our live osprey cams will be turned back on in Spring 2025 on Louis and Dorcha's return. You can catch up with the story so far here: www.woodlandtrust.org.uk/trees-woods-and-wildlife/osprey-cam/

I raised my concerns before this project started that if it wasn’t properly managed it would end up sparsely populated with pine, fir, larch, and spruce which would be necessary to help expand the existing habitat for the red squirrels. I trust the cash splashing trusts involved will be funding the necessary ‘despatch engineers’.

We have 5 big trees in our garden and some hedgerow trees have been planted in our garden. Urban trees have been under threat from overly cautious insurers, councils and landlords and that needs to change. It's all very well planting young trees to replace trees that have been felled for development but they take donkeys years to get to the amenity value of mature trees. Developers, leaf them alone.

Be nice to see trees alongside the river. Think they'd cool the water for benefit of fish in summer alongside other benefits.

And trees may attract a few dam engineers working for free.

Already part of the plan! This project just gives us that immediate impact while we wait for our trees to grow and allow some of these sorts of thing to occur more naturally.

Great! Are there sheep in the valley? Guessing you've fenced off trees?

Many many other benefits to the habitat and wildlife with trees and saplings and bushes and low ground cover than that! But yes .. keep the fish cool in the trees shade ..

Thank you Woodland Trust. As a member for a long time I can’t believe I have just found your wonderful Podcast. It’s so fascinating listening to your experts, that I try to learn from. I get so angry, when I hear about “human” kinds continual destruction of our wild places, especially Woodlands, as a country we have lost so much of it, over the centuries. Please keep up the wonderful work you do, I will keep supporting you 🍁🍂🦔🦡🐞🦋🐛🐝🐜🐌🍂🍁

Hi there, The Skipinnish Oak is growing on a private estate and we are not currently aware of any threats to this tree. We are currently campaigning for better legal protections on veteran and ancient trees across the UK through our Living Legends campaign. You can find out more about the campaign and sign our petition calling on the UK governments to better protect veteran and ancient trees here: www.woodlandtrust.org.uk/protecting-trees-and-woods/campaign-with-us/tree-protection-campaign/

A bittersweet season this year - but one chick did survive to fledge, thanks to the timely intervention of Woodland Trust. Looking forward to the return of Louis & Dorcha in 2025 and hoping for a much better season.

Thank you so much for all the wonderful work you do, this last season was particularly taxing and from what could have been total disaster we now know one chick has made it and pray Louis and Dorcha will gather strength and return in spring to better weather and a chance to rear another successful brood. Can't wait x

Sorry to say, but I can’t help but think - after the Sycamore Gap event - that advertising the location of such ancient trees might draw undesirable attention to them 😢
@richardealden2323Ай бұрын
Yes exactly .. I know of another Oak , not a million miles from there , but I am not shouting it out .. for the reason you said and /or people will go across land assuming its their god given right even tho there is not footpath or right of way any where near the tree and some will leave litter .. yes its a sad society we live in these days .. Also heavy footfall under a tree compacts the soil , damaging soil and drainage structure ..
