Very true on bass output SPL.... But when using this speaker in the correct large cabinet, the bass is just amazing. Thunderous and deep with only a few watts. Thanks for the comment!

You have them running backwards. The cloth grills face the rear walls of the listening room. These were Wharfedale's answer to the Bose 901, and were a rear reflecting design just like the 901.

Wow. Altecs just... always sound "right". I really want to hear my dad's Tannoy Golds to see what they're like compared to my 9849s. What amp are you driving these with? Sounds great man! The only speakers I've heard in Best Buy that truly impressed me were KEF Blades. A bit rich for my blood though :)

That is awesome! I also have an all white with tan interior 72 Mark iv. They are great cars, best backside / trunk of most cars. Very sexy.... one day I need to post videos about this car. I'm all done with it. The 514 in her is dangerous. I installed an eaton true trac and that helps a lot. Thanks for commenting and good luck with your 74'. These cars are great to work on.

I have a pair of Model 19s. Same drivers as The Voice of the Theater, but in a conventional bass reflex cabinet. Recommend corner placement to greatly improve low frequency response. I drive it with a Yamaha AS-501 integrated amplifier. Careful with the volume or you risk setting the drapes on fire.

How were you're old engine tolerances? I ask because, it is said by people on blogs that the early models 69-early 70' that the engines were assembled using selected fits. I just wondered if it was true. I'm leaning towards believing it because early 429 (385 block) Thunderbirds had a power difference you could actually feel over the one year earlier (1967) FE 428 Thunderbirds. You should not be able to feel a 5 hp. increase in any luxury car.

I have or should I say my father in law has the same setup. Was sitting for meany years. I moved him and he wants it running again. I had it just running a phono. Was good. He wanted his eq hooked up also after I did I was using my iPad in the special input. Worked fine. Hooked up the receiver and worked fine. When I went to play a record there was a loud buzzing or hum. Any idea what I did wrong.

Styrofoam cone. Easily outperformed by more conventional type woofers like 15s and 18s with much more powerful motor structure and excursion. Either way I would love to have a couple of these just to look at if nothing else.
