I hate that these videos are hidden promotion for paid services. I know that you work for Upstash so I understand why you do this. But as a junior developer, I would love to see a video about how to make a real-time communication app without having to use a paid service.

Hey man, the macOS way of doing things is a bit different since a lot of the functionality you're used to on windows isn't there, usually on mac you'll have a lot more 3rd party apps to make the os exactly how you want it. Some of my best tips: Mac Mouse Fix: Really satisfying smooth scroll, enables the back and forward buttons on your mouse + other gestures without a trackpad Magnet or Rectangle: Windows-like window snapping with assignable keyboard shortcuts Raycast: This is a must have for me and is the reason why i'd never switch back to windows, It is a spotlight quick app opener with community plugins, It enables you to do everything from controlling spotify, vscode to generating prettier screenshots, converting json to typesript interfaces, making lorem text, testing api endpoints etc... basically anything that the community makes for it Shottr: Much more powerful screenshot tool with things like OCR and annotation Karabiner: You can customize every single key of your keyboard and even add more complex modifications like new keyboard shortcuts If you really want to take it up a notch though, i recommend trying out Yabai and Sketchybar. They give you the full I3 linux tiling window manager experience on MacOS, this has probably been the biggest boost to my productivity so far.

Mac tip : if you want to open terminal from the folder. Install iterm2. It will add terminal option in right click action context. Click on any folder right click -> services -> Open with iterm2 Option 2: Use raycast and install Repo List extension. It is an alternative to the spotlight but with way more powerful. You can simply type your repo or folder name in raycast search bar it has option to directly open from vs code

Mac tip : If you want auto tiling side by side windows. Then just right click on the green maximize button. It will ask you to side the window to left or right. Once you do if other windows are open it will ask you select the other window. Then in between there would be a slider to adjust windows. You just have to drag the line in between two windows to adjust accordingly.

Hello, I love your videos, keep it up. I have a question if I would like to do a project similar to mentimeter, how would you implement this, would you need to create a presentation app from scratch or is there a way to do it without the need to create an application, thank you very much

Josh, I have an important question. Many developers in the Javascript community advises that we should not host our backend API in Next.js, if the project is expected to scale. They often directs to more robust solutions like Express, NestJS etc. I absolutely love how the architect shown in this video (which is using Next.js as a backend API), but these advices give me hesitate to start a big project. I wanted to use Nextjs as web app and backend, expose REST API to mobile app and POS. Most of the traffic is expected to go through REST API. Will I get in trouble in the future using this approach?

🤯 This may just be the best way to write APIs when they are not directly dealing with the frontend. I am using Qstash but my way is not as slick as what you've showed here Josh. Would love to try this out 🙃
