Helped me install mine, thaks. I didnt even try to get any before or after readings, just wanted to get it hooked up. Praying it lasts a good long time with no issues. Edit: 4 days later the ac isn't keeping up, gonna have to undo this to test if it's the unit or soft start....

How effective is the unit. How many less amps did it bring too
@SoftStartUSA Жыл бұрын
Hey there @dj5752! Thanks for commenting on our video! Great question! The SoftStartHome is built to decrease in rush current by up to 70% less. In some of our more recent testimonials, you can see how the in-rush current was brought from 118 amps down to under 19 amps of in-rush current. Here's the link to check out that testimonial from one of our customers kzbin.info/www/bejne/l2PSiGNqZ6d7eZI

Installed the Softstart in a Coleman Mach 3 Plus today in about an hour and 45 minutes due to 4 trips to the garage to get tools and connectors. Overall fairly easy to install, connected to a 20amp house circuit that started right up; now I just need to get the generator.

Air Excel has told me that installing the SoftStartRV will void the warranty.
@SoftStartUSA Жыл бұрын
Hey there @troyharris6677, Air Excel now has their own soft start device that they sell. From what they have marketed, it does not void their warranty when you use their product. The SoftStartRV is a great product because you can install without cutting any wires. With our no cut, no splice install, we've found that most manufacturers honor the warranty of the A/C unit. They may have said this with they misconception that there would need to be wire cutting needed in the install. Isn't this just a larger start winding capacitor with a current limit ?
@SoftStartUSA Жыл бұрын
Hey there @SolarPV, great question! Yes, the SoftStartRV has a large capacitor, but it delivers the energy in a controlled manner so it is easier on your compressor. Which is what makes the SoftStartRV extend the life of your RV A/C unit! If you have any more questions feel free to ask our support team, www.softstartrv.com/support-ticket/?_gl=1*1skpvua*_ga*NDg0NDcxMDMwLjE2OTc1Njk2MTM.*_ga_9SVFCNK3XB*MTcwMTE4OTkyNS42Mi4xLjE3MDExODk5MjcuNTguMC4w

Total BS. AC does not kill a generator unless the generator is to small for the job. Not saying soft start doesn’t work, just calling out miss information about generators.
@SoftStartUSA Жыл бұрын
Hello @RussellBond13, thank you for pointing out that great point. Most times you should be able to run your A/C off of a large enough generator. However, the trouble is lugging around a generator that's big enough for that. That's where the SoftStartRV comes in handy, that you can decrease the size of your generator, and still run your A/C making whatever adventure you're on more convenient! In addition, adding a SoftStartRV to your rig enables you to run your A/C on a 30AMP hookup that's usually found at an RV park. Your RV A/C can now draw less amps from a solar generator which allows your power to last for longer. It's especially helpful if you are taking your RV to higher altitudes because the higher the altitude the less efficient that big generator is, but the SoftStartRV enables your A/C unit OR heat pump to keep running even when your generator gets less efficient. For all these reasons, we really encourage adding the SoftStartRV if you're looking for a solution to these problems. Not to mention it extends the life of your A/C unit and decreasing the big thump that A/C units make when they are turning on! If you have any more questions about the SoftStartRV may work for you feel free to reach out to our support team! www.softstartrv.com/support-ticket/?_gl=1*1skpvua*_ga*NDg0NDcxMDMwLjE2OTc1Njk2MTM.*_ga_9SVFCNK3XB*MTcwMTE4OTkyNS42Mi4xLjE3MDExODk5MjcuNTguMC4w

I just put one in my Rockwood 2109S. The customer service is beyond any company I've ever dealt with in a long time. I watched a couple of "instructional videos" that happened to include my exact AC unit retrofitting the Softstart. The gentlemen from Softstart volunteered to walk me through when I just called to ask a question. We were on the phone for less than a 1/2 hour and installation was basically complete. My little 2K watt Honda inverter had no problem running the AC.

What about that price though Mike? I'm an old Radio Shack kid. Can I buy a bread board and some components and save myself $315.00?? It also occurs to me, if I'm installing this to save wear and tear on my solar system.. why couldn't I install 2 in parallel and reduce that 24 amp peak down to 16 or so? Also, I've read that some of these units are WAY overkill because they're actually designed for central air units, and they'll shred your RV AC unit in short order. ...I have NO idea which units do that. No clue. ..or if it's even true. Can you help steer me away from the bad ones? Oh yeah! One more thing about this unit that confuses me.. they say to remove any other capacitors.. but right there on the unit it shows that you're supposed to connect to a 'run capacitor'. What's the deal with that?? Final question.. I've seen ads for units that delay the fan startup from when the compressor starts up. They claim that it does basically what these soft start devices do.. but I can't imagine the results being THAT dramatic. At any rate, these SoftStartRV people advise not to use any other capacitors or other start units with their unit. COULD I get away with combining the two technologies?

I agree, the RV industry is full of 'cheap' addons that in reality you can make yourself for a fraction of the cost. People like to buy 'cheap' DIY products though

Hello @Crogon, we apologize for the delayed response. We talked with our tech support team and here was their perspective on your question. No there is not a kit form for softstarts as the control system is proprietary. The Technology may be similar but there are differences in the way they learn and safety features. We recommend you do not two softstarts in parallel because it would over power the system and the softstarts would sense this and shut down to protect the system. The SoftStartRv is designed for RV A/C's up to 18k BTU's or 1.5 ton. The SoftStartHOME is designed to handle 2 to 6 ton home A/C's. Now SoftStartRV we suggest you avoid cutting any of your ac wiring for two reasons 1) If a SoftStart was to fail in 3 min you can be back to your original factory wiring and still have A/C. 2) Cutting wires WILL void your warranty. You have to have to have a run capacitor for your A/C to work. What you don't want is a Start Capacitor or Hard Start capacitor in the system when using a SoftStart. At least with the SoftStartRV in the system it would sense the start capacitor and would shut the A/C down as having both in the system would be bad. Now! systems with a start capacitor or Hard start also have what is called a PTCR. The PTCR( protective thermo coefficient resistor) is there to protect compressor when the massive amount of power is dumped on the compressor. You could leave a PTCR in place and use the the SoftStart and everything might work ok, BUT if you remove the PTCR and put a start capacitor or hard start BACK in the system you MUST have the PTCR in place or the start capacitor or hard start will fail or burn out. If you have any more questions please feel free to fill out a support ticket and our tech team would be more than happy to answer any more of you questions! www.softstartrv.com/support-ticket/?_gl=1*1skpvua*_ga*NDg0NDcxMDMwLjE2OTc1Njk2MTM.*_ga_9SVFCNK3XB*MTcwMTE4OTkyNS42Mi4xLjE3MDExODk5MjcuNTguMC4w

@@SoftStartUSA Well.. you don't have to go much farther than "proprietary system". You can't really kick the can over that goal post, anyway. That sucks a lot. ..but HEY! Thank you very much for the in depth response! I understood it all perfectly, and I deeply appreciate you taking the time and effort to answer! I never did move forward with that project, but these days, I don't think there is any better option (as far as draw on the system) than a split unit. I can't really afford one of those really good ones either, but if I can some day, I'll be looking to adapt that to my solar system, and ACTUALLY get off grid that way. :)
