Ex military here. Stay on the trails. Don't kick funny looking "rocks", don't pick anything up. Don't dig anywhere. They probably gave you the same briefing. The scariest is cluster munitions because about 1 or 2 percent of them fail to explode and just lie around rotting for years, but I have to say, if you see any fin sections sticking out of the ground, give it a wide berth. Usually it's just the tail fin of a rocket or mortar sitting on the surface, but it could be attached to an entire rocket or mortar buried in the ground. Such places were my playground, once upon a time.

Great Advice. Thank you for Sharing. Were you ever stationed in this area?

@@KrawlZone No, I was Australian army. I was on ranges for both exercises and demolition (disposing of unexploded ordinance), and in training they were able to precisely cite cases where either Australian or American soldiers had done one of the above without thinking and had it end badly. The area they let you into would have been cleaned up pretty carefully (you'd think) otherwise they wouldn't have let you in there at all, but there's always *something* that gets missed, hence the liability waiver. It's pretty hard to clear a large area with 100% certainty, mostly because the whole area is covered in shrap so you run the detectors at very low sensitivity to only find the big stuff close to the surface. I was on live ranges that were actually in use so I saw a lot of stuff that I gave a wide birth to or called in for investigation (like the actual tail fin sticking out of the ground). I take it from your comment no one gave you that briefing? I'm a bit surprised because telling someone it's their own fault if they get killed or maimed but failing to actually say what to look out for seems a bit negligent. It probably invalidates the waiver.

So glad you were able to make it! That day was a blast! The drive home, not so much. FYI, the part where I had to back down the big hill, I was totally out of control coming down.
