I would submit to you that for technology, 11 years is quite a long time! That was the same time as the iPhone 4s, the original MacBook Air, iCloud was debuted at WWDC, and more. So yes, Nota Hero, i would say that as far as technology is concerned, 11 years ago is quite a long time, not as long as twenty years ago, but technology progresses much more quickly than many other aspects of the world. Hahaha you’re not wrong on the music… that’s the issue with trying to use trending audio to boost views. Hope you like the pictures. Hi Jacob, Great video. I'm a Photographer and am running a 2011 27 inch imac. I'm now running it from an external SSD with Thunderbolt connection. The OS can no longer go beyond 'High Sierra'. I know that there's a guy called 'DosDude' who's created a 'Catalina Patcher', but even Catalina doesn't allow for the latest version of Photoshop and Lightroom. Do you know if there's a way to be able to run the latest version of Photoshop and Lightroom ? Thanks for your help.

Hey, so I don’t think there is anyway to get 2023/2022 photoshop/ Lightroom on an unsupported Mac… there might be a way to do it via a virtual machine… I will look into it and get back to you.

Yeah I personally have Monterey on my 2011 iMac but it’s not running too well, as the so thinks it’s running in a VM so none of those apps will work

I just recently got this same 2011 27" iMac myself, and it was a fairly low spec machine but I increased the RAM to 16GB, a 1TB SSD, and installed the 3.4 GHz Core i7 2600 CPU that to me is close enough to maxing it out as far as it can go. If I had my druthers would I like a new 2021 M1 iMac? Sure, but I can see this meeting my needs for the foreseen future. For a machine that is 10+ years old, it is more than I truly need right now. The most amazing thing is, with the iMac and all the extras I dumped into it, I have only a little over $300 sunk into it. I think this is why Apple and many other companies are starting to design planned obsolescence into their tech. A practice I do NOT like but they just gotta make their moola!

Facts my guy! Once they realized how well lasting they made it they were like, oh crap! We won’t get money… quick make them literally irreparable, so they have to buy a new one to get it fixed!

@@jacobestephotography A huge mistake if you ask me. Instead of flooding the market with computers that newbies and the other 95% can afford, (which is the best advertisement they ever had), they're just making landfillers or recycled parts.

Yep… their profits go up, but no one can afford a $1099 notebook that is outperformed by a 2011 iMac or even a $600 MacBook from 2015… all in the name of technological advancement and “newness”

I did the exact same thing in lockdown plus a gpu upgrade to be metal compatible, had to replace the power supply and motherboard too which blew and nearly threw it out the window a few times after having to take it apart more times then I can count, but now it’s a fantastic machine! Still completely useable and fast!! All for under £300

Software wise, no further than high sierra, you will still get security updates however. Hardware wise, yes. You can upgrade the storage, limited graphics cards and you could probably upgrade the Wi-Fi card to allow you to get airdrop working. Graphics card upgrades are possible, however difficult and not sure.

Definitely! I’ve edited 4k video (4k 100mbps) on it… slow but it’ll do it, especially if you upgrade it to an SSD.

It can be updated to the newest OS but ultimately you'll have to change the GPU. It can actually be updated without changing the GPU using a patcher utility but a lot of newer programs won't run properly. Regardless of whether or not you update the OS you'll want to swap out the HDD for an SSD. And the RAM is upgradable to a max of 32 GB. Follow Mr Mackintosh on KZbin, he has plenty of videos walking you through the update process.
