Since I live in Mount Lavinia, I know this true story well. I have also been inside the tunnel, the entrance to which is found in Mount Lavina Hotel. However, the narrator makes one mistake here. He says Governor Maitland came by train to Mt. Lavinia. There were no railways in in Sri Lanka that era. The first train pulled by a steam locomotive came into operation in Sri Lanka (then Ceylon) after 1860. He would have surely traveled by horse-drawn carriage.
