Make sure you go out and buy an ESP rod loaded with ESP braid on a Drennan reel. Make sure you uses a Drennan float , Drennan weight , Drennan swivel followed by Drennan wire with a pair of Drennan trebles hooks .

heeh you can only put a baitrunner on if the reel is made by Shimano naughty, otherwise it is "free spool" for any other brand. Im bored, sorry lol was a great watch again though! Although i saw this years ago as well.

They shouldn’t unless the fish goes through weed or obstructions. They’ll only drop in an emergency.

Very nice video. Thanks! I've been using the same reel for 13 years, it works with 0 friction and the drag is super precise. Good thing as well is that even wet and at low temperature it will work equally well.

Size 18 seems very small for Perch. I bow to your superior knowledge Martin but I'd never go below a 14 for Perch.

I usually do fine on size 16 for decent sized perch, but choose that so you can still catch roach or rudd if they're around

It’s simple hold the hook and imagine your caught now see if you can rid yourself of the feeder and be left with just a piece of line and the hook if not scrap it ! But l don’t think Martin Bowler would use a rig that would possibly kill a specimen fish of any species?

A big float stop on each end would be my choice as I’m not keen on the current trend of dropping leads and the Olivette will pull free if there is a break off.

Chub being sensitive biters is a bit of a myth imo. I use a link method like Martin, but fish a tight line, and don't even use a tip. I use a soft float rod. This method, big baits, big hooks and a stiff hooklength, acts as a bolt rig, and has accounted for dozens of 5lb+ chub. Every bite a pull-round. Martins method is 50% good angling, 50% tradition.

Method is called link ledgering _ very effective as it causes less disturbance than a running ledger as the weight is spread across a number of shot rather than a single lead 😉
