In my experience (homeowner/DYI) inspectors have never been an issue, and have often been helpful in explaining stuff I might have missed. I've wired a whole house (I built) from the pole, did a 100>200 amp service upgrade and so on. The biggest pitfall I think for amateurs, besides not knowing your limits is keeping up with code changes.

Can you use a magnetic seal on a fiberglass door ?
@jmlcolorado2 жыл бұрын
No. Steel only. Fiberglass isn’t magnetic.
@CaseyMichaelsMusic2 жыл бұрын
I thought this was going to be about installing concrete window sills, not expansion joint repointing. Typically window stools and sills don't have expansion joints, like he said the contractor either did it this was to save money, or because he couldn't purchase the right size prefabricated concrete sill.

@gracegrijalva41563 жыл бұрын
Does it have to be a steel door or will it work on a wooden door?
@jmlcolorado2 жыл бұрын
Has to be steel door. Otherwise the magnet won’t work as intended.
@Luka11803 ай бұрын
@@jmlcolorado Depends on whether you add metal to the door, surely? Like a frame of thin sheet metal around the edges. You could even paint it the same color of the wooden door, even match the grain.

Hello Bob~ So, I've installed a lovely security screen door. I have a gap along the top and along the lock side. I've purchased a magnetic door seal kit. Have watched your video in its entirety. Well done! However, the door jam isn't available to insert the kit. Do I need to simply superglue the magnetic side to the screen frame? Frustrated...

Can I join 3 inch pvc to cast iron even tho the cast iron is slightly smaller in diameter?
@djscrizzle7 жыл бұрын
Absolutely... Use a Fernco Plumbqwik shielded transition coupling. It's got a stainless steel shielded coupling that meets code almost everywhere. The rubber has one side that is larger and takes PVC/ABS, the other smaller takes XH (also SV and no-hub) cast iron, Copper or steel. The all-rubber one shown in the video is actually leagally allowed underground, and nowhere else. Any 'mechanical joint' coupling above ground has to be shielded to meet code. Certain states want you to use the soil pipe or no-hub adapters, whereas others, like Colorado, allow you to use shielded transition couplings instead.

Awesome video, Bob. Thanks so much. Outside my kitchen, under ground, is a 5" cast iron rusted pipe that joins to a 2" cast iron pipe. I believe it was joined with hydraulic cement!?The 5" cast iron pipes flange is broken. If I cut the 2" pipe and the back of the 5" pipe flange, what can I use to join them together? I heard somewhere about a SERVICE WEIGHT FLANGE. I never seen one or heard of it before. What is your expert advice on this situation? GOD bless and thanks again.

That's a handyman fix and won't last as long as the original defective work. What a complete bullsh#$&er. Where did you do your masonry apprenticeship Bob? That work should be done with S-Type portland cement (mixed 1:3 with brick sand), a tuck pointing sack and a jointer, not with your fingers and a crappy pre-mix product you bought at Canadian Tire or Home Depot. Any first year apprentice in the Brickworkers and Allied Craftworkers Union knows how to do this work, but you clearly don't. You are not a real tradesperson. Like nearly all TV tradespersons, you are unknowledgeable and untrustworthy. It takes more than a pair of work boots and some google searches. Shame on you!
@MrIforgotalready7 жыл бұрын
I am glad that you implied the reason of the failed first job and identified the culprit as a first year apprentice in the Brickworkers and Allied Craftworkers Union. If the first worker had done his job right, Bob would not have to do this goof, in which he forgot to wet the surface prior to applying the replacement mix.

Absolute butcher. Haven't seen anything like this in 15 years as a Mason. Packing joints with your fingers......jeez. I always cut them out with a grinder, use a blower to blast out the dust then fill with type s masonry. Load a pastry bag pack it, press it with slicker then tool it. Same application for repointing brick, stone.....etc. This video is terrible
