Nice! I got almost identical readings at the Morton Arboretum today in Lisle, IL. 1.25 and 1.6 peaks. I'm interested to understand the 1.25. I'm not convinced they are from the 13 vs. 17, as everywhere I traveled in the Arb, it seemed that the 1.6 was nearby and 1.25 was distant. I could be wrong. The 1.25 reminds me of distant expressway traffic you sometimes hear in the mornings especially during temperature inversions. It sounds low pitched from a relatively great distance, but higher pitched when you're next to the expressway.

I love the Morton Arboretum! These are from just off the North Branch Trail. I found the same thing - it was really tough to get close to the 1.25k sound. This was as close as I could get. I'd try to follow the sound and at some point it sort of just felt like I was moving away from it.

Seeing/hearing how excited Joel gets to speak about his work now and noticing the fan base growing is undoubtedly awesome. That piece about ping filters!!! Magic Meister Joel went over that in a previous lesson. More deep dive videos like this to breakdown soundtracks would be fantastic. Could a deep dive into The Unfinished Swan 🦢 be possible ? This is such an amazing track in the game. I love that combination of music and what feels like a soundscape. Makes me feel like I'm in a mine, and brings me back to the wonderful tracks featured in Donkey Kong Country. Thank you for keeping up on these track deep dives! Question: Do you build your palette per track as needed or do you begin composing for a game with a general palette? Question 2: I'd love a deep dive into "To My Knight". It's an incredibly emotional track that gets me every time I hear it, especially after how it plays out in the story of Eastward. Did the story and characters play into the composition of track?

A double album treat 🎶 *The Darkside* Potential Album Name: Desolation (potential components of joy/hope?) 20 songs, 1 hr. 9 mins. Comments/Notes: With a name like Desolation, there might be those who resonate with the idea of isolation or desperation. But to others, a state of being alone isn't inherently bad. In fact, it's a welcoming prospect to a "clear-mind". This is one of many ways to look at it, but the album name is great. *The Lightside* Delight (could also have a hint of longing or yearning) 21 songs, 1 hr. 24 mins. Comments/Notes: Now this title is going to be interesting to play with. Perhaps the soundtracks that posses a "heavy-tone" and eventually become "lighter" towards the end (sort of like a sad-to-not-so-sad)? Or rather, songs that have small blips of a rising bit every now and again. HotShark (Oh the throwback - IF this doesn't take someone back to the days of "Bangarang", then they probably won't get it). Drum Machine Classic Dance Tracks: 10 808 -----Nice. The 6:29 sound track isn't bad at all - some may find it a little jolting, given the mix and the frequency potency but that uniqueness/quirkiness is what makes it cool! *Do keep posting these Joel! Seeing the process & progress with your work(s) is awesome. I think the building of these albums is as much you sharing about yourself through your music - like you said, it's autobiographical. And it's going to be a fantastic piece.

Great video. Thanks for the inspiration! I tried to reproduce some of the ideas on my Oberheim Matrix-1000 (that has a self-oscillating 24db filter) and it worked! Since the Matrix-1000 has build-in "Filter FM", the sonical result was very close to what you achieved with the ACE. I was also able to reproduce the delay-like effect using LFO1 to modulate the VCA2.
@joelcorelitzmusic
@joelcorelitzmusic 4 ай бұрын
Awesome! I used to Have a Matrix-6 - same architecture. How did you ping it? Did you use a saw or square a few octaves down?
@TimPower1
@TimPower1 4 ай бұрын
Since there is no way to select the "sound source" of the filter on the M1000, I just switched both DCOs off and disabled the VCF modulation of ENV1. Setting Resonance to max, I can set the initial pitch using the Cutoff and enable "key follow". ENV2 set everything to 0 to get that pluck sine sound. Now the important part to shape the "nature-like" percussive character is using FM set to full and set the DCO1 pitch to taste. For the delay-like effect, it was suitable to modulate VCA2 with LFO1 (using a saw-down waveform) and then using Ramp1 to modify the LFO1 amount over time, so the delay regen can be altered via the ramp speed. I am still learning the M1000 (and synthesis in general) so maybe there are other ways, but the result sounds really nice 🙂.@@joelcorelitzmusic

Hey Joel, Great exp. unlock vid.! *🎹🎶* Question: If Self oscilation occurs just at the frequency cut-off point, does that mean I'll have one note across the keyb. so, I can play the filter like I would any other keyb. (i.e. pinging; to build on) ?"
@joelcorelitzmusic
@joelcorelitzmusic 4 ай бұрын
Great question! If you set the filter to track the keyboard at 100%, the self-oscillation will track across the range of the keyboard.
