I want to say, there's very little evidence that even the seleucid phalangites used trousers, and indeed only the ptlomies inducted locals into the phalanx in any numbers (who subsequently revolted). Trousered soldiers would generally be lighter troops

What brand of miniature du you recommend for this faction ?

The guest is noticeably louder

I play them with 1 point of bow levies, which I put in the best cover I can as close to the center of the table as possible, and 5 points of (usually) mounted warriors in 3 units of 10-12 and one of 6. I started with the small warrior unit at 4 as a dice generating one, but quickly found out that beefing it up a little made it very useful for cleaning up enemy remnants in the endgame. Generally speaking I find warriors a better buy than hearthguards except when specific board abilities favor the latter because they generate the same number of attack dice per point, but the warriors are more resilient. I usually put a banner on one of those big warrior units and end up regretting it. You have to be a really good player to really benefit from a banner and I'm not there yet. This said with this compo I've wiped from the table (zero dice victory) a couple players from the French top 10, and many from my club. The main error players make against the Welsh is using up their fatigue in combat. The Achilles heel of the Welsh is their fatigue, which can be used to cut their activation/reaction range to S (or nothing, but S is very cost-effective), preventing them from retreating and/or evading charges.

As for me, the best Pagan Rus miniatures are from V&V Miniatures (both from quality and historical accuracy perspectives). And they have a good figure of Sviatoslav (if you want a legendary warlord) that looks like his traditional depictions, not just a random guy in a viking helmet. Also, Victrix has anounced a Rus set, as I understand, it should be available soon

My new Norse Gael army uses Antediluvian Miniatures' Islemen figures. These are perfect Norse Gael troops, mostly armed with heavy weapons. Only problem is they're based a lot on the Lewis Chessmen which are 12th century, so are *slightly* late for AoV, but they do look very good.

Question from a new player: you said that Valhalla is good with Berserkers because they're going to die anyway... do you still count the attacks from the guys you kill with this ability?

No Turks, Wallachians or Hungarians but Brittany and Castille? Not sure how I feel about the faction selections on this one. I get that they're going for a 100 years war focus but there was so much going on in the east during this period that seems like is being ignored. Also, despite it being a little bit afterwards, if you're going to have Castille, you might as well have an Aztec faction. Burgundy and Hussites I am very glad to see. Despite being a little disappointed with the factions, the period is very interesting and I am still looking forward to the release. Part of me hopes they add a few more factions but I am doubtful. The factions without hearthguards, the gunpowder and the mercenaries seem very interesting and I am excited to see how they work. Also Kalmar Union would've been fun even though they didn't do a whole lot.

Gripping Beast are producing a range of Indians. I've played against them several times - they are a very good faction, definitely 4 toe nails.

I would die happy after seeing that Scythe chariot charge successfully land on a full Theban oblique phalanx

I just want to know what a year of playing these guys has taught you!?!? The raja is ballistic, the chariots are wild, and the warband can really do a lot with just a few dice. It's just got to be in phases. Good episode and hope you have found something that has really worked well. I see a lot of guys run these so differently and some are really good and some not so much.

I'm thinking of getting these soon.
