I would have paid to see this band..... D&C is too slow. This is perfect. And is that Jerry's old Travis Bean? Next to John?

Saw these same four cats the first time I caught Bill's set, in Vienna, Va, touring just after 'Good Dog' was released. It was a 'best ever' type of show - still as good or better than the two other 'best of the best' musical performances I have seen to date (out of hundreds maybe thousands). If I had to name the cats I would like to see Bill play with on any given date, it's these guys, Greg, Tony, and Kenny. Phenomenal chemistry.

I've been listening to the Grateful Dead for 40 years. Last year my dream came true and I saw Bob Weir in Vegas with Dead & Company. This year I planned to see Phil Lesh.. may he rest in peace.

this was a really fantastic show, and barry's playing really stood out as being a rare mix of being directly in the style of garcia, but at the same time very muscular and forceful, and deeply psychedelic. ive noticed a lot of the times, "jerry" players can be a little reserved when playing with phil or bob, but barry is up in the mix and often in control. to my ears barry is BY FAR the best "jerry" player, and prior to this id only seen barry with DNB and only seen phil play with weaker "jerry" players, so this show was deeply, deeply satisfying to me. i especially remember scarlet>fire sounding "right" in a way thats very rare at post-jerry shows. IMO the most authentic, true to the music and true to the history choice to fill the jerry slot at the fare the well shows would have been a combo of david and barry. tho obviously that wouldnt have sold tickets like trey. for my money, barry, and the DNB as a whole unit is about as good as it gets. true high adventure music of a caliber very rarely seen consistently, night after night. aside from one off lineups that are not really supposed to jam or melt faces in the first place, i dont think ive ever been let down by barry or the DNB. IME, a good DNB show is on the same level as any PLF lineup, furthur, the dead/other ones, and very often is quite a bit better. its insane to me that the DNB is not a huge phenomenon selling out huge venues, but i am real thankful for the more relaxed environment you get at a DNB show.
